School santa book appropriate?

Am I actually being unreasonable?

Santa came to see my sons class today and they all received a book. They are all 7/8. Son is 7, 8 next summer.

He has recieved this book and doesn't understand it at all. Nor find it engaging. Just strikes me as an odd present for a child struggling in Maths. Maybe for year 6 at a push.

Or is it actually good? Anyone read it?

You would say uts the thought that counts but there was no thought. No what I would do for my classes as wouldn't most teachers.

Hahha obviously not!

That would be mean it was all nice ones with a personal reason why. One girls so stressful says she still has it and loves it in her memory box

That’s great that one girl liked it.

And in the case of the World Book Day gifts that were distributed, I’d hazard a wager that some of the child’s class also liked their free book.

Just as in your example, there may’ve been teens that were not happy with your choice.

It doesn’t mean that you failed, just as it doesn’t mean that your child’s class teacher failed either.

I adore the Mr Men books (even as a Uni student, I’d buy one a week for my then 14 month old son). But they’re very different & easier to flick through and read than the Year 1/2 teacher having to browse through the entire book delivery to tailor a book for every child in the class.

As an ex KS2 teacher myself, that’s bonkers to think they’d have the time to do that!

Instead of moaning about what you seem to perceive as a failure of your child’s teacher, why not sit down & read the book before making a snap judgement (as it seems in this case) and then use it as a tool to help encourage your child to (perhaps) look at maths in a more practical way. Surely, as someone who has worked in the classroom, that’s obvious?

I am sure some of the lads thought the mr man was sentimental nonsense. They were 16.

7 year old from santa is a different kettle of fish.

Honestly it's a generic book that would have been able to give to anyone. Some lads would have been "huh?" to the football book.
