My friend who works at a supermarket. The standard opening hours are 7am-9pm.
Yesterday, they opened 6am-11pm. This will be the case for every day between now and Xmas Eve (excluding Sunday) Friend messaged me moaning
Every year, no customers turn up between 6am-7am until 23rd/24th. Customers don’t come after 9pm.
Friend and her colleagues are fed up with head office insisting on opening 3 hours extra. Due to two break ins this year on the kiosk, s colleague takes turns in standing in there bored out of their minds. If hq looked at the sales figures hour per hour, they would see no sales. So why keep the store open for longer when there’s no need? There are staff in after the store closes normally to top up stock etc
The thing is that the supermarket is small (not a Tesco Express size) and only took on TWO Xmas temps! The staff who have to cover these 3 hours means less staff when the customers come in. Which peak times is 10-12.
The supermarket chain isn’t using extra money to do this as staff are not doing overtime, getting paid extra to work after a certain time etc. All this is doing is annoying the staff, plus families and customers who need the extra support during peak times.
