Queuing

Had the misfortune to be in an airport queue for about an hour and a half yesterday which was unpleasant enough, but for the love of God why can't people give you a couple of inches - or even centimetres - of space? The woman behind me practically glued herself to my back and repeatedly parked her case under my feet.

Does anyone else find this kind of thing intolerable or am I just a grumpy old woman? Clearly everyone has totally forgotten about COVID...

Caught a bus home the other day after a hospital appointment. Everyone queuing up nicely then bus arrived and it was a free for all. Some woman barged in front of me so I accidentally ( on purpose) bumped her with my Zimmer frame 🤣 ageee with the poster though.... manners have gone completely

Public transport is the worst.

I flick my long hair ‘out of the back of my coat’. That tends to make them step back. If that doesn’t work i take a step back myself. I usually wear thick soled docs so you’re going to know about it when those buggers hit your toes 😂

Earlier in the year we were at a theme park. In one of the endless queues. My husband had a rucksack on. The family behind kept walking into the back of him and the kids were bumping their heads on it ALL THE TIME. We could hear the parents making stupid comments like “people should take their backpacks off so they don’t hurt others”. Well here’s an idea. Just stay slightly further back and you won’t walk into it. This isn’t a bus or train where space is at a premium in which case all rucksacks should indeed be removed. This is a queue. We’ll be in it for an hour at least. There’s barriers. No one can push in front of you. So just leave a gap between you and us and then you won’t touch the rucksack. Because if you actually aren’t wearing a rucksack, the other people just keep banging into your actual back or legs or whatever. So I prefer a rucksack to keep people back!

Had a kid that kept doing similar at Disney a few years ago. We could hear the mother explaining to him that “their” space in the queue was around them only and he shouldn’t keep bumping into others. She then apologised to us. We obviously said it was fine. The kid was only small. Still learning. But if she’d have tried to blame us then that’s when we’d get annoyed.

@JedwardScissorhandz definitely a space saving feature 🤣🤣

I've been headbutted on the bum in the local Co-op queue by someone bending down to rummage in their bag.

itsgettingweird · 15/12/2024 11:16

I think there seems to be a weird logic that the length of the queue determines how long you'll be in it!

So if everyone bunches up you'll get there quicker.

Clearly is not the case - 100 people are 100 people however far apart they are!

Yanbu either. This does my head in. And the reason why in airport queues I keep my suitcase firmly behind me and use the pull along feature.

Ugh this annoys me too. They do the same in queues at shops. Just step back an inch!

Also in my gym - all the treadmills are in two long rows. There are at least 20 of them, all identical, and very rarely are even half in use at the same time. Gym etiquette is to leave a gap when possible (i.e. if I'm on treadmill 3 go to 1 or 5) and it pisses me off when someone ignores the 10 empty ones and decides to jump on right next to me. Why? They are almost inevitable a run-farter as well 😬

You should go to Wimbledon - everyone queues beautifully for hours and hours. It's such an amazing experience that The Queue has become an event in itself!

Agree! I don’t do well in crowds but Wimbledon was superbly organised and it never felt like you were hemmed in by loads of people.

Someone reached round me at knee level to get stuff off a supermarket shelf right in front of me.

And then had the cheek to look shocked when I snapped at her. Could she not wait for a single minute. Brainless wonder.

I chuckled at "run-farter". 😄
