To apply for role I didn’t get 6 months ago?

Hi all,

I applied to a role at work when I was on maternity leave that is one step up from my role. I didn’t get it as I failed to provide enough detail on the questions I was asked and also senior leadership felt It wasnt the ‘right time’ for me. I completely get this as I was on maternity leave at the time and not really focused on the latest news within the industry I work in.

I’ve been back at work a few months and now the role has come up again. Would I be unreasonable to apply for it again? Or should I take the ‘hint’ that my senior manager doesn’t think I’m ready for this? I feel I am but would find some aspects of the role challenging. However, I always feel one learns more being thrown in the deep end, as it’s the best way to learn…i’m
worried about embarrassing myself and seeming desperate but also want to progress and feel I’m up for the challenge.

Do you feel that you’ve gained more experience in the last 6 months and could provide more specific detail on the questions they ask this time ? Worth going for it if so ! Shows resilience - and clearly the applicant who got it last time either didn’t work out or has progressed onwards already - so perhaps it could be the right time now. You’ll never know unless you try.

I’ve gained more experience and would work my socks off to learn what I needed to.

Go for it again.

Resilience is a great characteristic!

I would go for it. The reason they gave might well have been the deciding factors between you and the other candidate. But they haven't worked out have they? Also, if you were actually on maternity they might have been concerned about you changing your mind about returning to work. Or that returning to a more challenging role was more difficult than expected. Now you have returned and got back into the swing of things I think you are a better prospect.

Good luck!

Thank you all.

Go for it. You wont gain anything from not going for it

stargazerlil · 14/12/2024 20:26

Yeah go for it, it’s probably come up again because it’s meant for you.

Go for it. My current role I wasn’t even shortlisted the first time- 12 months before I actually got it.
