I have a thyroid biopsy next week and im terrified. If you’ve had this please be honest with me, how bad is this? Is it really painful? How does it feel after?

I had my biopsy on Monday and it was ok. However since it has felt swollen inside my throat. It’s making me feel gaggy. Did anyone else have this?

I'm not sure how it could cause that? Are you sure you haven't got the start of the throat/cold virus thing going around. That gagging sensation is how mine started.

Maybe it’s that as lymph nodes are up too. The biopsy was hard for them to do so they had a few attempts and wiggled the needle quite a bit!

I'm glad it went well. Mine was troublesome (painless for me though!). It's really likely that the gagginess is from a virus and unrelated.

@Cupofteaandbiscuits have you had any results yet? I had my ultrasound on Christmas Eve and she told me the results straight away, I actually have an intracystic haemorrhage where I coughed so hard when I had flu that a blood vessel bled into a cyst on my thyroid, hence it coming up overnight! It's quite rare apparently but no malignancy so that's good, I have a follow up scan in 3 months.

Hoping for good news for you!

Hey, I was also quite worried, had mine done just today and it was actually better than a normal injection, barely felt a scratch.

It was absolutely nothing. The guy doing it told me he had to train for 14 years to be able to do it and that’s why is on the megabucks because they are in their 30s by the time they qualify. I absolutely hate people touching my neck so I was worried before it too but genuinely it was the gentlest and least painful or invasive thing I have ever had done ( and I faint after smear tests!)

you will be fine, wear your headphones, put your favourite music on and you can do this!!

its fine, I had several. They will numb the area up. The worse bit was not being supposed to swallow whilst the needle goes in. I would say just a bit uncomfortable and really nothing to worry about. Dentist and smear test are worse!
