I need some advice , medical abortion - 9 weeks

Hi,

it’s been a long tough decision for me for the past few weeks of deciding if I want an abortion or not, it’s been hell and back. My workplace are aware of my situation and was somewhat supportive until now.

Ive made the call to get my abortion pills and I’ll be receiving them this week. However when I told work I’m getting the tablets they told me I’m still needed to be in work when I take my pills because they are short staffed. My job is very hands on and I’m on my feet constantly on the go, (I work in childcare) so I can’t exactly just sit and take it easy. I’m worried because I’m going to be in so much pain whilst going through that. I can’t take them over the weekend either because of timings.

any advice on what to do??? Xxx

Call the doctor and get signed off sick

Take the tablets as and when you need to.

If you are too unwell to work then phone in sick. You may be ok or you may only need one day off. You can't change what happens you need to take the tablets

Work are going to have to cope without you. They're (appallingly) trying it on by insisting you come in, but I don't see them actually taking any action if push came to shove. They'd get very short legal shrift.

I had the pills for an incomplete mc at a similar stage and it wasn't terrible, neither pain- nor bleeding-wise, but I wouldn't have wanted to be working in a childcare setting during that. Quite aside from the emotional implications.

I'm sorry you have this to deal with.

If you died tomorrow, your work would replace you and forget you in weeks.

Please don't give a shit whether or not "work" is understaffed. It's not your responsibility to keep your company "staffed". You think about yourself first.

I think you're covered by maternity legislation so you might be able to have time off for related appointments without it counting against sick leave policy etc.
They're trying it on and guilting you into being at work.

You won’t be able to work once the tablet kick in. The process wasn’t much more painful than period cramps for me but the bleeding was heavier and I just shifted between bed and the bathroom throughout.

From what I remember there were quite a few hours between taking the tablets and things starting to happen so you may be alright. But it's not just about how you feel physically, there's also the emotional side.

Once things start happening you really don't want to be at work.

Wow. Definitely don't go in, you won't be well enough.
And working with kids... mentally that could be tough, how insensitive of your employer
