Its bad enough that their dog bars in the garden for ages and they don't bring it in. It was bad enough that it sed to bark for hours in the day when they're out at work and the poor thing is shut up all day.

Its now even worse that its taken to howling for hours on end when left alone a la Hond of The Baskervilles.

But FFS - it has been barking non-stop for the last 10 minutes and they are in but doing nothing to shut it up!!!

I know they're doing nothing as if they were I would hear them. I live in a semi so the noise is awful. Why on earth do they think its acceptable to let it bark and bark, they must know its not nice for us. Guess they just don't care. Selfish gits.

Phone the dog warden and report them. It's cruel to leave it outside all the time.

wingandprayer · 30/04/2008 18:44

I had neighbour who did this, usually from 6.30 a.m. Phone RSPCA and reprt them for not looking after animal. They may not do much but might make them think twice when inspector arrives. Then phone council and report them for noise pollution. What happens next depends on your council, but they can take action against anyone creating a nuisance.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 30/04/2008 18:58

Mmmmm but they will know its me if I ring the RSPCA. Don't really want to have a huge falling out with them.

Dog is actualy inside most of the time, just annoys me that it'll be barking for 15mins before they let it in. And then the hours when the dog is in the house being noisy and they are at work.

No they wont - it would be against data protection act I think. Unless of course it would be really obvious because you are their only neighbour!!!

Have you spoken to them about this, because of course they don't know what their dog does when they are in work? They may be terribly upset their dog is so unhappy while they are at work. Or that they are upsetting you as a neighbour. If they don't care either way, then you've got nothing to lose from bringing in further assistance surely?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 30/04/2008 20:15

I am the only neighbour that would hear it!!!

Bloody dog is still barking and they are in. Too bloody lazy to get off their backsides and tell it to shut up!

Its a dog, its not gonna under stand shut up is it? I bet they have it shut in a room somewhere

WorzselMummage · 30/04/2008 20:30

i had to report my neighbour for this exact reason ( though tthe environmental health dpt at the local council ).I had to keep a note of the times for 2 weeks and then they dsent them a letter stating that if it didnt cease they cold get a 5 grand fine or an asbo !

it stopped immediatly and my relief was immense.

If i were you i'd go round and say that it's doing your head in and while you appreciate that dogs do bark theirs is excessiveand if they don't do something about it you will report them to the enviromental health and let them deal with it.

so what if they know its you, what are they going to do about it ? get another dog ?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 30/04/2008 20:32

if he's a copper he should know better he wont make your life hell but will be fully aware that could could cause trouble for him if he doesnt sort it out. Go and chat to him, if he really is a police officer the chances are he's really really good at ignoring annoying noise and doesnt realise how obtrusive it is to other people.

ho wlong sit been going on for ?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 30/04/2008 21:28

They've only had the dog about 6 months. Seems to be getting worse rather than better.

I will have to rev myself up to talk to him.

Maybe if I made out I was concerned that they didn't know how upset their dog was to be left on its own when they're at work????

Make out I was very concerned about the dog, rather than my own mental health??

WorzselMummage · 30/04/2008 21:34

Be honest and say its driving you up the wall, they obviously don't give a shit about the dog, i doubt you being concerned about it's welfare will change that.

You have my sympathy, other peoples noise is the most annoying thing..

To flip to the other side of the coin, my sister has always been a keen dog lover and a long time SAHM. She was surprised when her neighbour asked if the dog was ok as it often sounded very distressed when she was out, even just for very short times.

She was actually pleased that her very friendly neighbour had shown concern and asked advice from the local dog rescue and others. General advice/opinion actually seemed to be that the dog was very lonely and needed company. Dog rescue eventually provided ANOTHER DOG, on the understanding that she could return it if it didn't work out. RESULT! Two very happy dogs and a (still) friendly neighbour.

Would hate to think I had caused them to abandon the dog elsewhere or worse.
