To think something went wrong with botox?

I am posting here for traffic...

Long story short attended a dermalogist who is also a GP 4 weeks ago to have a biopsy done on a mole on my face. I had 3 stitches, had to return after 2 weeks for stitches removed. I have gotten botox twice before in a local aesthetic clinic. He does it too, I mentioned i was due to get it, he said he would do the day I returned to get stitches removed.

Returned after 2 weeks and he did just that. I was at an event 4 days after where lots of photos were taken and then on a night away a week after. I felt alot of the photos my face looked 'odd'. Eyes kind of sunken and cheeks all swollen up like chipmunks. I also developed a rash on both cheeks.

I returned on Tuesday for post botox check and showed him rash etc he prescribed steroids/antibiotics/steroid cream and antihistamines. Rash has only slightly improved after 2 full days, swelling in face still there and quite noticeable.

I asked is it possible he put filler in accidentally...(we were chatting alot as he was doing it). He said he didn't.
Forehead and in between eyebrows is fine.

AIBU?
YABU - that's highly unlikely to happen for whatever reason.
YANBU- sounds like something seriously gone wrong here.

Would love to hear from anyone who works in this industry for advice or information on whether I would know immediately...

I think you’ve had a reaction to the original procedure and probably foolishly did too much at once instead of letting your body heal. I’ve had a lesion removed on my face and stitches (actually twice) because of cancer. Both times my face swelled up terribly. I looked like an alien! It’s just a reaction to everything including the suture material and all the inflammation it causes, quite possibly mixed with a bit of an infection. Happened to me both times. One time I literally couldn’t see out of my eyes. I’ve never had Botox or anything else done in my life. I think you just needed to give yourself time to recover before you did anything more.

Did you post the same thing yesterday?

Yes I was thinking should the mole not have healed fully. I am on an antibiotic, I hope this will help. The steroids are only keeping me awake really 🫤 the mole isn't cancerous thank God.
Sorry to hear you went through this. The site of biopsy is still sore and tender despite it being done over a month ago, stitches out 3 weeks today... how long was yours sore for? This was just a punch biopsy btw

Yes just posting here as more traffic. Wracking my brains trying to work out what's happened 🤷‍♀️

Did you have Botox around the crows feet? If so, he may have gone too low/administered too much leaving your muscles too weak to lift, so your cheeks are forming pouches. This can sometimes result in a snarl-type face when you smile.

Cherry8809 · 12/12/2024 22:05

Highly unlikely he used fillers - it’s not the kind of thing you can absentmindedly mistaken for Botox. The needles used for Botox are very fine, whereas the needles used for filler are substantially larger due to the viscosity of the filler.

A lot of brands now include a mild anaesthetic mixed in, like lidocaine. Perhaps it’s possible you had a reaction to that?

Yes in crows feet...anything that can be done to counteract it?

Ok that makes sense. Would I have noticed at the time? For eg would it be more painful?

Yes I was wondering if maybe he uses a different brand to other clinic but would I know have had reaction on forehead too in that case? Forehead is fine

It’s the placement of the Botox. There’s no way he accidentally injected fillers!!
I had Botox on my crows feet…had the same hollow sunken eyes (like Simon cowell!) hated it…never again

Did it take long for it to wear off? Did you do anything to try combat it?

Why do you say there's no way he injected fillers....he's a bit scatty, I suppose this is why I'm worried about that in particular 🤔

Is it too big a mistake you just wouldn't make?

Just bumping this up a bit

I've had this happen to me - never again.

The only thing to do is wait it out unfortunately. It took mine about three months to wear off. Mortifying, as i could see people looking at me quizzically when i talked or made an expression.

Moonlightstars · 14/12/2024 15:18

Tbb I think it quite often looks like this. 9 times out of 10 I can tell when botox has been administered. I used to work in a place that did Botox (I was a masseuse). That hollowed eyed look is common.

Pippa12 · 14/12/2024 15:30

It’s nuts he allowed you to have Botox so soon after an excision on your face! The procedure itself can cause asymmetry to your face at first, so why he’d add Botox in the mix is beyond me! I’ve had cancerous moles removed and Botox, but with 3 months in between. You’re not even supposed to get your eyebrows done.

Fingers crossed it settles quickly.

cocobeaner · 14/12/2024 15:43

It sounds really bad practice to do Botox after you've just had another procedure on your face. I'm no Dr but I had had my eyebrows tattoed the same week and my Botox provider wouldn't do the botox until they were fully healed.

The reaction doesn't sound like something that would happen with botox though, I've had quite a "dead eyed" expression in photos with it before though which I didn't like and so stopped getting it. But it sounds more like something to do with the mole removal.

Sockmate123 · 14/12/2024 20:34

Thanks everyone for the replies, it looks a little better after the antibiotics and steroids so I'm hoping maybe some of swelling was due to an infection...
I think its related to the mole toof although it was only a tiny punch biopsy. I think I just have to wait it out but I won't be going to him again 😕 I am almost a month in so 2 months to go! My son has his confirmation (religious family occasion) in April so hopefully I look normal by then!

I used to have Botox for medical reasons. A rash can be caused by an allergic reaction, it would be a good idea to let your regular GP know so they can put a note on your medical records. You should avoid having Botox again.

Gemmawemma9 · 14/12/2024 20:47

Mine took about ten weeks to start wearing off. If you have it very frequently it lasts longer.

Even though I had it done twice previously at a different clinic with no issues?

Thanks, maybe only 7 weeks or so. It has eased already a little

You can develop an allergy at any time, you really need to speak to your GP about this.
