I am prepared to be told IABU as I may just have misunderstood.
I took 3 DC to see this show tonight. 17, 12 and 10. All enjoy pantomimes and Christmas circus as well as musicals.
This was billed as a 'family musical with a sprinkling of circus' so I thought they would enjoy it. I thought 'family' meant enjoyable for all ages. Maybe I'm wrong. The picture advertising the musical showed an ariel circus act. It didn't look babyish at all.
It was a show for little ones! Infant age and toddlers would love it. I knew I'd made a mistake as soon as the show started and they were speaking in baby voices and referring to the audience 'come on little ones!'. I'm sure when mine were younger this sort of show was refered to as a children's show not a family show. If it was a children's show you knew you'd be bored silly but you went for your toddler. A family show I thought meant it being pitched at all ages with something for everyone to enjoy.
We persevered through the first half but there was no circus acts and just nothing to appeal to the kids. We were bored to tears and the DC had completely switched off, I found it hard to concentrate as nothing to interest me. But from what I gather they were trying to put magic back in a jar by a little girl making jam with her nan. And something to do with fish as well. Mine would have probably loved it when they were little.
Obviously gutted as a lot of money spent and a disappointing 'treat' for the DC.
So AIBU that a family show should appeal to the whole family rather than just very young children?
