My 5 week old granddaughter has this morning for the 3rd time, a reddish brown sick on the cot sheet. It’s only happening at night. We have been to the doctors who have dismissed it with barely a glance when shown the sheet! Has anyone out there had a similar experience please?

No advice re sick bit of you are worried you can get a breathing monitor for the cot

Doug5 · 12/12/2024 10:06

She has one. I don’t remember either of my 2 having a dark vomit!

If you are worried call 111 (if you are in the UK).

buttonousmaximous · 12/12/2024 10:58

No especially given she won't be on solids yet.it could be an allergy. Is she a sicky baby generally?. Had any medication? Regular poos/wees? Unsettled? Did she wake when vomiting? Is it definitely from her and not a random stain?

buttonousmaximous · 12/12/2024 10:59

A quick Google suggests blood which would be a concern id get a second opinion

404ErrorCode · 12/12/2024 11:01

The only time I had this was from blood my DC digested from my bleeding nipples whilst establishing breastfeeding.

Could this be the case here?

kiwiane · 12/12/2024 11:02

I would rock up at the Children’s emergency department - they have paediatricians. No wonder the queues are so massive - we need GP care to improve.

Miloarmadillo2 · 12/12/2024 11:10

Is it a posset or a full on vomiting? Is she breastfed and if so has mum checked for blood in expressed milk as this is most likely source.

colesr · 12/12/2024 11:12

When you say the doctors have dismissed it, what did they say?

Doug5 · 12/12/2024 11:38

Nothing! He barely looked at it! We’ve just called a health visitor, she is losing weight, again Dr was unconcerned which I found astonishing, and finally someone IS concerned , so waiting for a call back! I’m so glad I had my children years ago, the system seems to be failing young mums!

No definitely coming from baby! My poor daughter just feels no one is listening to her! We’re about to go to a mums group where they have a set of weighing scales and if she’s lost more weight ( should have mentioned she’s lost weight in past week) then we’re going to the hospital and not leaving till someone sees her!

She’s bottle fed now but thankyou

The doctor didn't say nothing, they must have said something, or did they go blank and you left?

DecemberNC2024 · 12/12/2024 11:45

If you’re genuinely concerned it could be blood, then maybe A&E is best? Go to one that has a separate children’s A&E but it may still be a long wait time. Best time of day to go is morning on a weekday.

And as she’s so young and not yet vaccinated, ask to wait in a separate area so that she’s not exposed to too many germs. That’s something they do at my local A&E.

mammaCh · 12/12/2024 11:49

I think that's concerning too. Drs can be utter rubbish sometimes.
Have you tried 111? Xx

Tittyfilarious · 12/12/2024 11:49

Id take the baby to the children's A&E and get her seen by a pediatrician they can run tests there .

FoulSeaOwl · 12/12/2024 11:54

Is she actually losing weight or not gaining weight at the required rate? How much weight has she lost? Is it just over this last week? If she's losing definitely losing weight at just 5 months I'd get someone to see her (a n e if your gp isn't willing to look into it.)

Has the red vomit spot happened 3 nights in a row? Is it definitely vomit? Could it be blood from a cut in her mouth?

MammaTo · 12/12/2024 11:58

I would also take a photo of the vomit if you can to show the doctors when you get there.

Workhardcryharder · 12/12/2024 12:29

Agreed with above, take photo as proof
