To think there should be information from all broadband providers setting out exactly what parental controls they have.

I was recently led to believe that Vodaphone had parental controls allowing the kids to have a different login that could be turned off at certain times, but now it is all installed I have found out their parental controls are a web page telling you how to set controls on the devices, no such functionality is available on their router control. On top of that 2.4hz required for any smart home items is not available. I have looked at other providers but none have clear information about how you can limit children and teens internet use.

You ARE the parent. Just set up parental controls on the devices. You can be in control, just might be a bit of a learning curve & a bit of effort on your part. We didn’t allow iPhones in the bedroom past lights out, and had a timer plug on the WiFi router that went off too.

I’ve recently changed to Vodafone and been disappointed with the parental controls available. My kids are teenagers so I want to be able to block things like gaming from 10pm to 7am. You can’t do this you can only put the block on for one period of time over a day. So I can either block from 10pm to midnight or 1 minute past midnight to the morning (unless I get up at midnight to change the setting every night!). If I had realised this I would have gone with a different provider. It’s very poor.

I’ve just moved from BT, who weren’t great tbh but the parental controls on BT are a lot better than Vodafone

Yes it’s simply not true, the functions don’t work and it’s taken weeks to discover the fact!

When you have older teens you have to have something more robust and you also might have others in the house who do need full access to the internet late at night.

This is what I found https://www.vodafone.co.uk/newscentre/press-release/new-secure-net-home/
but if you are under 14 days I think you are entitled to tell them u feel you were missold if that was promised to u

Es this is the sort of thing I want to do, I’m thinking h of cancelling but don’t want to change to a provider that’s equally bad!

On top of that 2.4hz required for any smart home items is not available

We got round that with Virgin by having a wifi extender that "split" the wifi into 5g and 2g. It sets up 2 extra wifi networks to connect to as well as the main one. I know this most likely isn't the correct technical terminology but the result is that we have a 2g network to connect lights etc to.

NeedSomeComfy · 11/12/2024 23:19

By whom were you lead to believe this? An official vendor or it was something that someone else told you? If it was official you probably have grounds to complain.

I have actually done this too, but it is affecting the strength of the WiFi and it drops out etc, I spen all day setting it up and I just feel so fed up at paying then having to do a work around. Good to know Virgin is no good either.

They have content about parental controls and internet safety on their website which gave this impression to me that they had these, I now realise how hard it is to get the detail from any provide.

I don't know what you mean by "no good" as it works perfectly. The signal is fine and it doesn't drop out 🤷🏻‍♀️

I mean that you had to buy an extender to get 2.4 for the smart home items, it doesn’t have that functionality otherwise? Is that what you have done?
