Hospital ward question

Bit of a random question but just wondered if anyone knew

i was in hospital for a week or so. The ward was a big ward with different bays coming off it. I was in a bit at the top which had a small bay of a couple of beds and a few side rooms.

I only found out after I was discharged that the part I was in was actually called a ‘high care’ area within the ward

sounds a bit of a daft question but is it likely I was just there because there wasnt space elsewhere? I don’t know if I’m just downplaying it in my mind but I didn’t think I was that unwell, or at least not seriously unwell. It was a cardiac ward and I was in with heart problems but so was everyone else on the entire cardiac ward so just not sure why I was in the high care part when I don’t feel like I was seriously unwell

I know nobody can say for sure, just wondering if anyone knew about it? Just a bit confused and wondering if I was more unwell than I initially thought I was. Doesn’t make a difference now because it’s over but was just curious!

What were you in for? How long were you there? Did you have issues with medication reaction? Or high care needs?

I don't know why you were there. My mum was in the critical care bay of the heart ward and died 3 days later. She was only moved to that bay when her health massively deteriorated. I'd be surprised if anyone at all in that bay was feeling fine!

Obviously I have no idea about your health. But my guess is that either it was the only bay with a free bed, or they thought you might deteriorate rapidly. Or maybe all.the other bays had COVID or something... who knows! Can you ask someone?

Sounds like you were in a higher dependency area than the rest of the patients on the ward.
I'm assuming you required more care than the other patients on ward for whatever reason.
I'm glad to hear that you are recovering well now at home.

My DH was in hospital recently with pneumonia/pleurisy and was on the respiratory ward. He had to have a chest drain for a few days and was moved to the higher care unit during this time - it didn't mean he was seriously ill, just that he required more checks and observations during that time. Could possibly have been similar for you?

In our cardiology ward those are the beds hooked to the heart monitors.
can be any number of reasons from, being unwell, particular meds to empty beds
