To think Parenting Hell (the podcast) has become really unrelatable?

When it started back in lockdown and we were all struggling with working from home with kids, dealing with toddler tantrums, and navigating the stress and anxiety of unprecedented events; it was great.

However, in recent months I feel like it’s just not relatable to the average parent anymore. Hearing about ‘man of the people’ Rob Beckett’s 28th holiday this year, numerous concerts, trips and PR events for the kids, Josh’s second home in Cornwall etc. is all a bit grating now.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully appreciate that if I took umbrage with every piece of media created by someone more well off than myself, I’d be left with very little. (And we aren’t on the breadline by any means). But in a cost of living crisis it’s all starting to look a bit tone deaf. Two blokes complaining about how hard their lives are when the literally have nannies/very supportive families/don’t work 9-5s, and seemingly endless budgets… give me a break.

They seem like lovely blokes and I’m sure they’ve worked exceptionally hard for success, and that’s great. I just don’t necessarily want to hear about it when I’m driving to my 9-5 in my shit secondhand car.

Yes I know, ‘If you don’t like it, don’t listen’. But I can’t be the only one who used to really enjoy it who just feels a bit ‘meh’ now.

They haven't been normal for some time. I used to work in comedy and even the ones you've never heard of are pretty divorced from reality 😁

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 09/12/2024 17:03

@DonningMyHardHat Yes I know, ‘If you don’t like it, don’t listen’.

Think you've answered your own question there OP 😂.
To be honest I still really enjoy PH (more so the guest free episodes) maybe because stuff like Rob microwaving his car keys is the kind of thing I'd do 🤦 but I had to sack off Chris & Rosie Ramsey's podcast ages ago, which is a shame as I used to love it and find them so funny and relatable but they've moved a long way off being both of those now IMHO.

ExtraOnions · 09/12/2024 17:06

… yet another Podcast, where millionaires pretend to understands the travails of regular people.

I like Rob Becket, but to imagine that his children & family lead anything other than a highly privileged lifestyle, is just incorrect.

shugarsuz · 09/12/2024 17:09

It's definitely morphed from the lockdown parenting but that was always going to be the case, I find them both funny so I still really enjoy it 😊
Agree with PP, I gave up SMA podcast ages ago, wasn't enjoying that anymore...

SidhuVicious · 09/12/2024 17:09

I'd love to work 9-5. 😂

Core hours are 7-5 but it frequently goes over and my contract states I need to stay until the job is done (up to the legal maximum of 15 hours). But I hated office work and enjoy this minute to minute so it's the lesser evil atm.

FrenchandSaunders · 09/12/2024 17:11

I still love it, one of the few podcasts I listen to every week. And I don't think either of them have nannies!

TeeBee · 09/12/2024 17:11

Their lives sound chaotic and stressful. They seem to work incredibly hard and appear to be very hands-on dads trying to juggle parenting with very, very busy work schedules.
I love them and find them incredibly relatable. I think it's one the best podcasts. They obviously don't have the financial burdens that many do at the moment but their parenting doesn't seem any easier than the next person.

immoreexcitedthanthekids · 09/12/2024 17:12

I know what you mean but I still love it, I've stopped listening to SMA but I still really look forward to PH, I prefer the ones when it's just the two of them rather than the interviews. I'm so looking forward to gladiators and strictly this Christmas and I don't usually watch either!

Ginkypig · 09/12/2024 17:13

Well I look at it like I am listening to two well earning celebrities talking to each other.

i was never going to be able relate to it,I will never have the lifestyle they can and do but it doesn’t stop me from enjoying them chatting.

to be honest I’m quite happy that some aspects of their lives are not how I have to live!

TeeBee · 09/12/2024 17:13

I bet they wished they did 9-5! They sound manically busy.

immoreexcitedthanthekids · 09/12/2024 17:14

I also don't think either have nannies, but they both obviously have families that help plus some paid childcare thrown in.

secretsandsins · 09/12/2024 17:15

Yeah I am a bit tired of it now. Actually more because I don't have little children so am not in that stage of life.

I do think they are very funny together though.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 09/12/2024 17:16

I think I love how much they still seem to really enjoy it, they're laugher is sometimes contagious, even stuff like "Rose is away!". And their reactions to some of the recent playground shaggers stuff made me laugh out loud. Luckily I was listening alone and not on the train 😬.

hopeishere · 09/12/2024 17:16

I still love it even though my kids are older. I also prefer the guest free episodes. I love the wee insights into comedy as well.

I think we might be the same person!

GanninHyem · 09/12/2024 17:18

Yup. I stopped listening a while ago as I thought exactly the same, but oddly feel more like this about Rob Beckett than Josh. It got a bit grating listening to the woes of RBs children's gifted designer clothes being stained, or hearing him bang on about his WC roots and how he is down to earth while his kids are in private school. Don't begrudge anyone a decent life because of money, it's just the falseness of it all.

Worst thing is I try not to listen and Spotify will NOT stop pushing the bloody thing on me. I've unfollowed it, deleted downloaded episodes, even went through and painfully marked each as not played but it will still push it through at the end of every podcast I listen to!

GanninHyem · 09/12/2024 17:19

Weird hearing them doing voices in the new Bluey Mini Episodes that went on Disney this morning too (Along with Alex Brooker) too.

LegoHouse274 · 09/12/2024 17:41

I thought this a few years ago already. Like you to start with it was funny, then it was often not relatable but sometimes still was and was still funny, then it just got ridiculous and that made it less funny too, so I lost interest.

Koalaslippers · 09/12/2024 17:51

Evidently don't listen that well if you think josh has a second home in Cornwall.

Personally I enjoy the mix of general parenting and celeb stuff.

Healingsfall · 09/12/2024 17:55

I know when Anna Williamson and Luisa Zissman went on they had loads of complaints about Luisa talking about her nannies and staff etc. But as Luisa said on their podcast "LuAnna", she only answered the questions asked! She's a millionaire who married well and doesn't pretend to be "one of the people" or act like her rich life is the norm.

SparkyBlue · 09/12/2024 18:10

I stopped listening a while back and I used to love it.

Where is it then? I thought it was in Cornwall too!

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 09/12/2024 18:45

I still like it, although I tend to skip the ones with guests unless it’s someone I’m really interested in. Most of the parenting stuff is still pretty relatable (my kids are also both sleeping in my room tonight) and it’s not like they have a team of people dealing with that.

Koalaslippers · 09/12/2024 18:55

hopeishere · 09/12/2024 18:26

It isn't their house, it was a work project of Rose's. She was doing it up for a client. It was in Cornwall.

hopeishere · 09/12/2024 19:25

No it's their house. They were interviewed in The Sunday Times about it. I think she's now working as an interior designer for other clients. They say they might rent it out but it all looks like it cost a fortune so I'd not be keen on that if I were her!!
