Reference issue

I have recently left a job after receiving union support and a package due to a potential constructive dismissal claim. I was treated very badly by the school and put in a position where leaving was my only option. My union were excellent and I left with an agreed reference amongst other things.
I have spent the last few months exploring opportunities of which there are many as I am well respected and have had no issue finding work. However, I am having an issue getting the agreed reference sent out as the ex-employer seems to be playing games and not sending it.

I currently have a job offer which is subject to references. The request was sent out nearly three weeks ago and has not been responded to. Several emails have been sent by the organisation and I myself have emailed several times (including HR and people more senior than my referee) but still it has not been sent.
I am no longer with my union as my new life doesn't require it and so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I am going to be losing work as well as having a shadow cast on my reputation which is currently very good.
Any advice would be welcome.

I have just been through exactly this also with an arsehole, control freak school leader with a bitter resentment for me!
Get your union to conte t them and address it. There is probably something in the settlement agreement about 'timely response' to reference requests.
Also, have other people lined up who could also write a reference. I know for education you have to have most recent employer but you can also have others ready.
The otherr thing I did was to use AI to write an email to my referee helping them to understand the impact of not sending the reference and the impact on your mental health and your family's wellbeing. Run this past your union first but it worked for me.
DM me if you want to rant or run ideas. I was a school leader myself and I still got screwed over by a megalomaniac. It's more common than you think xx

go back to the union ideally the person who helped you before

It doesn't matter you're no longer in the union, get in contact with the person who handled your case. The union is still presumably involved with your former employer and will not be happy that the agreed reference isn't being provided.

Thanks so far. I have now emailed my former union adviser in the hope that they can make it happen.
I have no doubt that this is a malicious desire to cause issues. As it is an agreed reference, it literally only needs sending!

Union advisor just said to email again, referencing the settlement agreement which I have done.

I'm furious about being put in this position yet unsurprised.

Union should respond for you. Contact the regional office.
