Both of my kids currently just look like their dad- what's that about ?

They're 2 and 4 at present.

They just don't look like me really. My boy (2) maybe looks a bit like me, but the girl doesn't really.

When my son was born, he really looked like me. But now he mainly looks like a clone of his dad. Especially in pics when my husband was his age.

My daughter has pretty much always looked more like her dad. She also has his eye colour and hair/ skin colour.

My son has a more similar hair and skin colour to me. We are all Mediterranean but my husband has more olive skin than me. I'm paler with paler brown eyes and lighter hair ( light brown ) whereas my husband and daughter have dark brown hair and eyes.

Anyway. I know it's stupid but I would like them to look more like me too. They just look like a blend of my husbands family ( especially my daughter ).

I know people say it changes when they grow up. Any experiences ? My sister in law looked like her dad and grandma when she was a baby / young and now is the spitting image of her mum. So here's to hoping.

I could never see myself in my 2 when they were small - they were definitely like their dad, even though people often said they looked like me. Now they are in their 20s, and when I look at old photos they were so obviously like me too I don't know why I couldn't see it!

I do t think I'm related to either of my children. Some sperm must've fused together as they are purely dh. My son has my eye colour but the rest is all his dad. My daughter looks nothing like me. But the poor we sod is a clone of me in every other way. We are two peas in a pod.

GreyCarpet · 09/12/2024 08:35

My son is the spitting image of me.

My daughter occasionally slightly resembles me. She doesn't look like her dad either really. More like a distant relative of his bizarrely.

If I hadn't seen her the second she was born and recognised the baby they later gave to me...

I have 6. Some look just like me, some like my husband, some are a mixture.

Two is a pretty small sample.

Everyone - even the odd person in a shop - used to say that dd1 was just like dh. I could never see it though. I hardly ever can, except that both dds have dh’s nose, which thank goodness is a nice one.

When dd2 was just born, she looked just like my granny when she was very old and hadn’t got her teeth in. 😂. But that granny was quite a looker when she was young.

I do remember a neighbour’s son when I was very young, who was the absolute spit of his dad. Very puzzling, how could he look like his dad when a baby grew inside its mother? I asked DM, but she fobbed me off!

It was a relief when I found out a couple of years later, courtesy of a girl at school.

I was essentially the female version of my dad for most of my life - even my mother has joked that if she hadn't been there, she would have had he doubts... !

Now in my mid-40s there is a slight touch of my maternal family about me, but you still have to look quite hard.

Bizarrely, my sister has always been my mother's double, and my mother is the image of my grandfather (her father, obviously). Genes are funny things.

I definitely think it changes as they grow up, 3 of my 4 were just like their Dad but have changed over the years

As a child, my friend's son was an extraordinary mini-me of her. Now as an adult, he's the spit of his dad.

When I look in the mirror I see my mum but when I look at pictures, I resemble many of my paternal cousins - we all take after our grandmother in bone structure.

So anything can happen!

Greentreesandbushes · 09/12/2024 08:43

Apparently it’s primal. So that the father will instinctively protect his children.

sunsmiles · 09/12/2024 08:56

My girl was the spit of me until she was around 4, then slowly morphed into her dad - especially mannerisms - the same laugh etc. Now she's a preteen she looks like me again. It definitely changes.

I've got 4 children all of them look like their dad all of them are dark blonde whereas I'm brunette, they've even got his cheek dimples haha he has green eyes I have brown and my oldest has Hazel and second has blue, third has green and also have a 5 month old baby who's eyes look a bit of a mix of dark blue and brown at the moment, you can't tell they are my children at all though to look at them, he obviously has very strong genes

TheGoddessFrigg · 09/12/2024 09:08

I have a friend who's a real looker- looks like a young Elizabeth Taylor. All three of her kids looks like their father- a short version of Plug from the Beano.

Caerulea · 09/12/2024 09:19

ds2 looks like DH produced him without any help from me & ds3 looks like I cooked him up all by myself.

And yet ppl think they are twins 🤷🏼‍♀️, even now at 17 & 15 ppl stop & ask if they are twins

helpfulperson · 09/12/2024 09:41

In my experience many young children look more like their dad, then once they get to five or so start to look more like mum.

RudolfIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/12/2024 10:06

Genetics are funny. I’ve never met my dad, was the product of a very brief fling and mum didn’t bother to tell him about me. Growing up everyone said I look just my mum.

I did a Facebook search a couple of years ago and found a man with the right name who matched the physical description mum gave me. Couldn’t see any physical resemblance between us except that we both have curly brown hair, but he had photos of his adult kids on his page. His daughter and I have the same smile, hair and face shape, and looking at his son is like looking at a male version of me. And all three of us work in the creative arts.

I haven’t made contact with any of them as it didn’t seem very fair to burst into someone’s life after 40-odd years, but I did find it fascinating.
