AIBU TO ASK ADVICE ON GAINING WEIGHT

Everyone thinks I'm mad. I've spent my life being told you're too skinny. Etc etc. Anyway had my babies and held weight a while and now it's gone. I do zero exercise and literally eat rubbish all day long. I def take enough calories. I'm 7 stone 7 ibs and 5"6 for reference.

I feel too skinny and clothes sort of hang on me. Would love to fatten up a bit just any ideas how to do it healthily without causing high BP cholesterol etc

I've no clue about anything health related

Thanks

Do some excercise. Build some muscle tone , work up an appetite, stop eating junk food and eat good fats ( butter, greek yogurt, avocado, nuts, olive oil etc) , lots of protein, and complex carbs (wholemeal bread, brown rice, baked potato with skin etc) and lots of fresh fruit and veg.

Thanks. Sorry this is really silly but like what kind of exercise? Like one from YouTube. I wouldn't know where to start.

There is such a thing as skinny fat, where what you're eating isn't nutritional, and can be very bad for things like bone density. So just going on pure calories won't help with health

To be honest, I would go to the GP and have a review with them, take a week's worth of food diary with you showing portion sizes and calories, they can see your medical history as well and check if there isn't anything underlying.

My brother was vegan for a while and became dangerously underweight. His GP told him to eat cheese.

Cheese is calorie dense, nutritious and delicious.

What do you eat at the moment? What kind of food do you like?

DreadPirateRobots · 08/12/2024 19:47

Weight train. Caroline Girvan's Epic Beginners series on YouTube is great and free. Drink some protein shakes. Eat nutrient dense, calorie dense foods - avocado, nuts, high quality nut butters, cheese.

Small meals little but often as in eating 5 times a day with extra protein and a table spoon of oil on some dishes that increases calories in a small way, snacks like boiled eggs and cheese. Have you thought about speaking to a coach that specialises in meals that give you gains and you can work out to build muscle ?

Are you absolutely sure there's no underlying health issues causing it? High thyroid for instance can cause you to struggle to keep weight on.

Do you have a gym near you that offers classes? Classes such as Body Pump introduce you to lifting weights in a fun way.

When patients I work with need to put on weight, we advise 'full fat' food so things like whole milk, cheese, butter, adding cream to sauces, smaller meals more often then say 3 big meals.

It's just genetic. My parents etc are all the same . I have a poor appetite so basically snack. Today for example. Have had porridge, a banana, a Terry's chocolate orange, a curry chip, hot chocolate mallows and cream. Not great but very fussy eater so was looking wsys to incorporate calories maybe like a drink or milkshake or protein shake
