Vaginal Prolapse - feel like my life is over..

BNKhash · 07/12/2024 21:54

I had two children and after my second I got my self a lovely little prolapse.

It’s between stage 1 and stage 2 and apparently not that bad.

I used to do lot of night intensity workouts and weight training and sometime feel really depressed about how the prolapse restricts what I can do.

How do people deal with that?

As others have said finding a good physio is key. Kegals actually make me worse. I got my cystocele immediately after my first, I thought life was over.

I'm pregnant with my third and just had to man handle a three year old out of the supermarket under one arm while pushing a trolley and attempting to watch a 5 year old with the other. Not my finest moment but I can confirm my vag held up well...piles on the other hand 🫠🫣

@JollyOldStNicholas thanks for all the tips. My physio was actually through private insurance - quite proud of her work in women’s health as well, but would’ve been better in a job as a motivational speaker or something… oh, I feel actually annoyed thinking about her

That sounds absolutely rubbish. Mine (London based) gave me loads of exercises to build up glute, back, ab strength as all of these support the pelvic floor, as well as life style adjustments. I'll PM you the details.

And definitely check out hab-it. It's cheap and excellent.

Wishing you so much luck.

@Lotsofpots could you pm me with the pysio you used? Thanks

Lotsofpots · 04/04/2025 06:42

I have done @Thirtyseveninlondon

How old are your kids? Bodies can and do heal even years and years later.
I had a prolapse after no 4 (4 children in 5 years... I'm lucky my womb didn't just drop out!) and I felt horribly depressed about it even though it wasn't a severe grade. But I did my exercises and it did improve slowly. BUT no high impact sports or lifting, no jogging.. it's just not worth it.
A couple of years later I took up Taekwondo (now a black belt).. I just had to find something that didn't make it worse!
Ultimately I did need a hysterectomy (not just for the prolapse.. heavy bleeding) but the prolapse improved by itself over time with pelvic floor exercises.

I was going to say this. No personal knowledge, but I have known friends who were very depressed and physically constrained by it at first, then slowly have improved till I now wouldn’t know if I didn’t know!

Hello! Just popping back to say that I'm watching baby #3 bum shuffling across the room and haven't thought about prolapse in months. Also haven't done my exercises in months, but I will now!

After #2 I was so distressed by the horrors of prolapse and couldn't see how I would ever recover. I definitely didn't think I'd want a third baby.

Find a fabulous physio and do what they say. Good luck!

Thirtyseveninlondon · 06/04/2025 03:10

How long did it take to heal it?

Thirtyseveninlondon · 06/04/2025 03:12

@ByTealOtter how long did it take for it to go back to normal? thanks

CoolNoMore · 06/04/2025 07:17

It was noticeably better by 12 weeks, when my hormones had calmed down. About a month later, doing my set exercises four times a day and lying down for 30 mins when the prolapse seemed bad (this was in Covid times, so I was often able to manage this) everything was much better.

I had been told that the last good bit of progress would be when I stopped breastfeeding and everything went back to normal, hormones-wise but for me that was 18 months after the birth and I was already fine so I didn't notice any further improvements.

duchessofsilk · 06/04/2025 07:22

I hear you, it's horrible (I had two large babies over 9lbs). For a minor prolapse you can get it lasered - I did, and went from having to jog first thing in the morning without even a cup of coffee to being able to drink 3 cups of coffee and then running with no issues/leakage at all. Its not painful and you have to have one per year to top it up but it has really made a huge difference.

Also, traditional kegels dont work as effectively as these ones do (hypopressive kegels), they also offer a community which is very supportive: https://completecorecontrolandfitmummy.com

My mil is finally having surgery to fix her prolapse next week, 45 years after her last child. It probably could have been done sooner imo

Thirtyseveninlondon · 15/04/2025 21:55

Could you let me know which pelvic floor physio you saw? thanks

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 15/04/2025 22:02

Feel for you. what helps:

Time
Ceasing breastfeeding (yep)
Losing weight (I know, but it did)
Trying not to ever get constipated - water water water
Pilates
Learning proper, full torso breathing (sounds weird but it is true)
More time
Accepting it will feel a little worse before period as womb is heavier with the lining
Relaxing

Good luck

pS NHS trad kegels made it worse for me. NHS physios are rubbish imho.

Veryverycalmnow · 15/04/2025 22:51

Thanks for all the advice on here. Makes me want to make an effort to sort myself out. I had 3 prolapses after DS and I've just been putting off dealing with it.

Infracat · 15/04/2025 23:11

Have you checked out Lauren Ohayon's Restore Your Core programme. Shes on insta and facebook and has a lot of info on prolapses.

SleepyCrow15 · 16/04/2025 00:08

Look at Kim Vopni's vaginacoach.com and her app, the Buff Muff Method. She is very knowledgeable. I understand your worry. I have a triple prolapse (bladder, rectum, uterus) as I have hypermobility. Once you find a good specialist physio you’ll be able to feel more hopeful and in control, but in the meantime, or if physio isn’t an option, try Kim's website and app. Best wishes to you.

😁 yes, it’s a name that sticks in your head, at least, so that’s good!
