Will now having a sea view add money to my house?

If so, how much?

Watching with glee as our neighbours across the road are chopping down all of their huge, but lovely trees (they are renovating their garden and adding a driveway)
Just behind her house is countryside and woods down to the beach.
From our top terrace, we can now see the sea 🙏
Yes, it’s far in the distance 😂 but will this add a lot/any profit to the sale of the house? (We want to sell and move back to the uk in the next couple of years) or even to rent it out? 🤔

Yes, probably.

SprostenGreen · 07/12/2024 12:29

Impossible to answer as house prices are multifaceted and you’re not in the UK. It may make it more attractive to buyers.

There is a house near me for sale that is being marketed as having “sea glimpses”. Yes, if you stand on a ladder of the bay window of the box room, you might just see a small patch of distant water. Fooling no one.

Circumferences · 07/12/2024 12:32

Probably would make it easier to sell yes, but I'm not sure it'll add ££££ to the selling price? Location really matters most, so eg being within walking distance to the beach, which won't have changed.

Silvertulips · 07/12/2024 12:32

We have a sea view - like many other properties here.

I doubt it adds real value unless you have a full view.

Chemenger · 07/12/2024 12:35

We can see a slice of sea from one window, it was an attraction when we bought the house. I’m very glad to have a house between us and the sea on days like this, but it sounds like you would not have seawater lapping at your door! A couple of villages along the coast from us our sea view would add a lot to the value of a house, not much under £1 million with a sea view there. Our village is not so overhyped, thankfully.

Somuchtogetthrough · 07/12/2024 12:36

We’re within walking distance to the beach-7/8 minutes away.
Now you can sit upstairs and comfortably see the sea in the distance and the fields etc, before we could only see a glimpse of the woods through the huge trees
We really need to make enough profit when we sell to be able to move back

We have a sea view - it's certainly added a little value to our house versus others nearby which don't, but unless you're actually on the beach, it's not something which makes a massive difference.

notprincehamlet · 07/12/2024 12:44

The way global warming's going it won't be long until we all have sea views

allthatfalafel · 07/12/2024 13:00

I don't think so, it might make it sell faster/be more attractive to buyers/let you get away with other things though.

ThatIsNotMyNameSoWhyAreYouCallingMeThat · 07/12/2024 13:02

Depends. My parents have a house on the seafront in south Wales. Currently under a red weather warning so would be less attractive to buyers right now!

BeMintBee · 07/12/2024 13:04

I’m not sure because it’s clearly dependent on having neighbours that won’t block it with more trees in the future. Would make it a more attractive sell though as it currently stands

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 07/12/2024 13:10

Who knows. In the UK living near mature trees has benefits for the local area and house prices, so the trees’ removal could have devalued the local prices.

Somuchtogetthrough · 07/12/2024 13:11

@RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway They have lots left and the woods behind, tbh they needed trimming back at least

Is it not very stormy where you are today? We are way outside the worst of it and I still wouldn't fancy trying to cut a tree down.

Somuchtogetthrough · 07/12/2024 13:20

@Itissunnysomewhere We’re abroad, no storms, just a dull, grey day
