To let DD go into town today?

12yo DD has arranged to meet her friends and go to the cinema.

The cinema is probably one of the safest places in the storm! But to get there, she'll have to go by bus which involves a 5 minutes walk to the stop at either end.

And they'll want to go to the cafe after, another 5 minutes walk.

I've said she can go, so far, as I feel the risk isn't huge as it's not like they'll be waking for miles - but am I underestimating the risk?

We're in the SE, winds about 48mph, yellow weather warning.

Of course she should go.

Of course she should go.

Thanks, I did think it would be ok when she asked but then had a bit of a wobble and wondered if I was being irresponsible!

A yellow warning isn't that bad, is it?

I don't remember ever worrying about such things before having DC!

Similar conditions here. DS(5) and I went out to his swimming lesson today which involved public transport and a walk. No issues at all other than it being a bit grim to walk in.

It's just a bit windy

It's a judgement call depending on where you are and what it's like surely.

My teens (16 and 14) are chained to the house today and not allowed out. But we're right on the coast in a red warning for wind, all of the buses in our entire County are off and I've lost count of the FB posts showing massive trees down, blocked roads, tiles smashed through windscreens etc.

Ds2 wants to walk down to the beach (down the road lined with 100ft trees each side the whole way) to stand and watch the waves and is very grumpy I won't let him 🙄

We have yellow warnings where I live most weeks from about September to March, lol. They're normal. If nobody went anywhere, the entire country would shut down.

Of course she should go. It's a bit blowy, not Armageddon! Honestly, the fuss......
