Muppets Christmas carol

Is anybody else unreasonably annoyed that they got rid of the love song to shorten the film. I loved it as a child, its my favourite Christmas film. And the song "the love has gone" is now edited out!

Young scrooge is fit so I'm all for it's inclusion!

Light the lamp not the rat!

GrammarTeacher · 07/12/2024 07:28

Available in extras on Disney plus.
i actually dislike the song. Although the cut is really awkwardly done.

Cattery · 07/12/2024 08:17

“See you tomorrow at 8” “But Mr Scrooge tomorrow is Christmas Day!” “8.30 then”

veganmayo · 07/12/2024 08:35

Nailed it

I’ve got the dvd and that song isn’t on it (thankfully) x

HarelessMiffy · 07/12/2024 09:19

Christmas decs are going up today, and we shall have this on in the background, with a supper of pigs in blankets!

Compash · 07/12/2024 09:38

It's a bone of contention in our house - DH loves it and says it makes sense of the rat crying and the 'Love We Found' reprise at the end... though I see his point, I loathe it for the dirge-fest it is, bumming my Christmas high... and as MCC is my No 1 favourite Christmas film, this is important to me...

On a different note: surely the best performance of Michael Caine's career? He totally commits to it!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 07/12/2024 09:44

It is not only Michael Caines’s best film, it is the best film ever made.

RosieLeaf · 07/12/2024 09:56

The film is a classic, but me and my siblings always fast forwarded this song.

Jifmicroliquid · 07/12/2024 09:57

Can’t wait for my annual viewing of this!

Acting with the muppets is a pinnacle of great acting career. Only the best rise to it and the muppets provide the best platform for displaying talent.

If you can’t do the muppets and hold your own you are not Oscar worthy.

It’s utterly magical isn’t it. We watch it every Christmas Eve (we are retired with a grandchild on the way, who I’m going to make sure is a fan). The ending with them all singing captures the spirit of Christmas beautifully x

Floralnomad · 07/12/2024 10:30

We prefer the cut version .

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/12/2024 10:40

It is a bit of a crappy song but it’s actually needed - the song at the end “the love we’ve found” doesn’t work without it.

Plus there’s no reason for Dickens and Rizzo to be crying without it.

ShodAndShadySenators · 07/12/2024 10:47

I have never seen the Muppets' Christmas Carol and feel I have missed out BIG TIME

You haven’t lived. Make you laugh. Make you cry. It’s glorious

MrsSethGecko · 07/12/2024 10:55

Terrible song. Sorry. I always used to fast forward it.

Hankunamatata · 07/12/2024 10:55

It's just not the same movie without the song and doesn't make sense

phoenixrosehere · 07/12/2024 11:00

They did?

I probably wouldn’t listen to the song on its own, but watching the actress singing it, and seeing the emotions on her face, I enjoy the scene.

pooballs · 07/12/2024 11:03

I watched it the other day and spotted simons mum from the inbetweeners 🤣

😮

It’s actually remarkable. How they took the most classic Christmas story (bar the nativity), added Muppets and songs, yet somehow made it one of the most beautiful, heartwarming films ever made, astonishing.

But yes, I’ll be watching the cut version - my attention deficit can’t deal with it 🤣.

YES!!! I forget that every year!

MrsToothyBitch · 07/12/2024 11:15

Yes I realised it's Simons mum from The Inbetweeners when I watched for the first time in a while last year!

I never minded the song, I always thought it was quite nice and that it was needed to add some real underscoring to young children of how much Ebernezer has lost. It also makes sense because it matches the song at the end - The Love We've Found - and adds more to that and it explains why the fairly cynical Rizzo is crying. Just watching Scrooge get dumped with words isn't quite the same!

MCC is an amazing Christmas film. "No cheeses for us meeces" is lyrical genius!
