Christmas activities and days out?

Purplegreenredblue · 06/12/2024 14:27

Is it just me or does anyone find it overwhelming the amount of christmas activities and days out there are?

What does everyone do?

Not really, just do the ones you want to do

SleepingStandingUp · 06/12/2024 14:31

Do you mean so much to choose from so how do you choose?

Caffeineneedednow · 06/12/2024 14:31

Not reallybwe are doing a santa trip to a local castle with lights ect this weekend and my mum booked my 4 yo a panto ticket when we're with her.

That's it, we will do some baking and crafts at home

Of course its very personal to your situation, if youve a ton of kids, and heaps of families then of course youll have loads of activities. Personally I've done no Christmas days out or activities yet...

What to do? Be harsh, prioritise your time, turn stuff down, depending on what it is that's overwhelming. These are all invites, I'm presuming, in the main no one will notice if you're not there, prioritise yourself.

I love them! It's just me and DS (and occasionally DM) though so it's easy to manage. I book as soon as they become available (early autumn) to spread the cost out a bit more.

I was very tempted to go OTT when mine were younger, then realised it would just become overwhelming for them.

We used to go to the local lights switch on, and on the Santa Train. As they got older, they had various parties and school events.

Now they are Secondary age... and DD2 had a school Disco, they will have a party at Scouts... but thats pretty much it!

When we were little we went to see fenwicks windows

When dd was little we walked the streets to see the lights

And sometimes went to get a new ornament at the garden centre

I think that was it

There are so many people tempting you with opportunities to give them your cash ...

I don’t. DD1 has suspected ASD/ADHD. We do the amount of activities she is comfortable with so she gets enough down time. By the times they do loads at school they’re over excited anyway. In Dec doing a santa visit, christmas show at the library, christmas theme swim event and maybe church on Christmas eve. Panto between christmas and new year.

I love the variety!

We’re booked into 7 official activities, we’re in London so plenty of lights we can go and see too. Do as many as you fancy, my son starts school next year so I’m trying to do stuff this year as I’m sure itll be a different sort of busy next December!

Thanks again
