To think that ‘cursed, without hope, was the love that I sought?’

Ok I lost a relationship that meant a lot to me this year that I’d had since 2004. I was devastated when I realised that he wanted out. Crying - lonely and wondering how I’d cope. This was around April/May.

Through a gigantic stroke of luck, I met someone in June that replaced him and made a very meaningful connection. From a demographic that’s currently overlooked - a working class man of a certain age! I realise in this respect I was very, very lucky. 😊

Anyway, on another note, I feel we should all rely more on 1960s song lyrics to get us through difficult times. Personally I feel that 60s songs generally speaking don’t get enough mainstream radio airplay outside of specialist shows such as Tony Blackburn’s ‘Sounds of the 60s’ on a Saturday. Outside of this show, 60s music is hardly played on Radio 2!

The one exception to this is ‘Everlasting Love’ by Love Affair - this gets a bit of airplay still and deservedly so - it’s a

BONA FIDE BANGER 🙌

So, as the Honeycombs might ask -

“Have I The Right?” to be annoyed at lack of 60s music airplay?

C’mon fellow 60s music lovers - let’s keep this wonderful decade of music alive!! 🙌

Legend of Xanadu - love it OP. Bought it on iTunes, there's nothing like a whip crack on your daily commute Grin

I find most 60s music very twee. Much prefer something slightly more modern.

AHFBridport · 06/12/2024 16:41

God Only Knows by the Beach Boys
Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues
We Can Work It Out by the Beatles (this was my parents' 'Our Tune')
Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks

many many others!

Gold FM plays quite a few 60s records. Another bona fide banger, The Night by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Would make a great Tango on Strictly.

Is your man of a 'certain age' in his 70s, then?

YANBU; I really like Sixties music.

E.g.

The Beatles: Help

The Who: Happy Jack

The Rolling Stones: Ruby Tuesday

The Kinks: Days

Simon and Garfunkel: The Boxer

And I do like Xanadu!

Cracking song, whenever I hear it I think of watching a performance of it on TOTP with my Dad when I was around nine years old.
I like There's Always Something There to Remind Me by Sandie Shaw (not a big Sandie fan, but I like this song) and Downtown by Petula Clark.
Eloise- totally over the top and what was Excerpt from a Teenage Opera all about?
Has anyone watched the film Last Night in Soho? Lots of British 60s pop songs in the soundtrack, some that you dont hear very often.

Love Sandie, Petula and Eloise !

I’ve always HATED Excerpt From a Teenage Opera ! I don’t tend to like songs with a narrative !

Last Night in Soho is worth a watch especially if you like films with a supernatural element. It has Anya T J, Matt Smith and 60s legends such as Terence Stamp and Diana Rigg. The Mrs Doyle actress from Father Ted is in it too. What more could you ask for in a film.
