To be really disappointed in this?

My DD is 21 months. I used to be really into an extreme outdoorsy hobby, in the years before having DD I slowed down, and since having her I’ve only done it once.

I do miss it, while l’ll probably never do the really risky stuff again, I want to get out and do in some capacity. I am really lacking fitness and confidence to do it. A top coach I follow on instagram had a baby in the last year and has been sharing her course schedule for next year. She announced a ‘return to x sport for mums’ as she knows the challenges of balancing motherhood and managing to get outdoors. The difficulty of the course sounded exactly what I was after and she said that it would be accessible for mums. I eagerly awaited the dates and further details to book it.

She has just released the details. It’s for 5 days, costs £500 just for the coaching alone. Am I being unreasonable to say this just isn’t accessible for most mums? I was thinking maybe a weekend away, but 5 days just is out of reach for most mums. My partner is supportive, but I just wouldn’t want to leave my daughter for that long. I feel like messaging her saying a 2 day weekend course would probably be more popular.

I don’t think you should tell her people won’t want 5 days - she’ll find out whether or not they do when they do or don’t book.

I’d focus on asking her to also do a 2-day / weekend option / telling her you’d like that, rather than criticising what she’s doing now.

No harm at all in telling her the truth - that you would love to do it but can’t afford that much and can’t be away from your family for that long, so you’re wondering whether she also offers any shorter courses.

I think you're right that she is probably cutting her market down - women in maternity leave might not be able to get the childcare (partner would presumably need to take annual leave), and women back and work might not be able to use the annual leave if they need it for school holidays. And that's aside from people not wanting to leave for so long

You can suggest a shorter weekend course, but she has evidently tried to launch this 5 day one first because it suits her better.

Suggesting the 2 day one however won't do any harm.

Honestly I think she's likely to have done a bit of market research already.

People will huge followings on socials will fill these things quickly and sell out - regardless of cost and timings. She's probably figured she wants to charge as much as possible, and built the course to appeal to those who can afford it and will want it - the people who can afford it likely have childcare set up to cover lots of time too (I'm thinking the loaded SAHMs who also have nannies in London - that kind of course would likely be popular here).
