Was BF being unreasonable?

BF and I have been seeing each other for almost 7 months. His previous relationship ended just 2 months before we started dating. We met at a festival through mutual friends and just clicked. Neither of us were looking for a relationship but it has worked out that way and we are happy.

BF was with his ex for 2.5 years. They had some mutual friends and were best friends with another couple. BF has been best friends with this other guy since they were kids.

Since our relationship started, the best friends girlfriend has been quite unsupportive of our relationship because she is best friends with my BF's ex. I have ignored her attempts to make digs, or even when she has slagged me off to their other friends. It's childish and not something I want to get caught up in.

Because of this, my BF is quite protective of my feelings when it comes to his ex being brought up by others, particularly because one of my concerns at the beginning of our relationship was that I could be a rebound. I am now confident that I am not and feel secure.

However, today my BF and I went out to do some shopping with his Mum and she accidentally called me his ex-girlfriend's name. My boyfriend immediately called her out for it and she was apologetic. He was then very off with her for the rest of the time we were with her and it's caused an atmosphere. When we were then alone, he apologised on her behalf and was clearly very angry about it. I told him it was fine and just a mistake.

Afterwards, I contemplated whether his reaction/response was appropriate. What do you think?

Personally I think it’s something that can happen, if she was apologetic and seemed sincere I think he should forgive and forget. It can feel important 7 months in (been there) but 15 years later no one will care or remember. What’s bothering you enough to post here?

I think his reaction was a bit unreasonable, yes. He should have been able to accept his mother's apology and put it behind him.

I once called my OH my Ex's name and I was mortified, but they laughed it off. If you've been with someone for years it can be a very easy mistake to make.
