Do advent calendars need to be here before December?

I ordered a cheese advent calendar from the Chuckling Cheese company back in October. I asked for it to be delivered by 28th November. 28th November Evri said the parcel was "on its way" but "We're sorry, your parcel has been delayed. We're working to get it on its way on the next working day and We'll let you know once it's out for delivery". I immediately emailed the Chucking Cheese company because that is a problem the sender needs to solve. They could have solved it by sending me a replacement via Royal Mail, but I've not heard back from emails or reply to telephone messages. I've had no help from Evri or the Chuckling Cheese company. More irritatingly, the Chuckling Cheese company have a social media team who tell me on Facebook, X and TrustPilot that Customer service is looking into it and will get back to me as soon as they are able to (but not in the last six days). I'm past wanting a resend now. AIBU to want a refund?

YABU - advent calendars still work even in January
YANBU - the joy of an advent calendar is opening them every day, and once that gone it's just overpriced small things.

Well it can count down to New Years instead. Or indulge in the ones you've missed and have 2.

YANBU in that an advent calendar is pointless if you don't have it ready on 1st December. 28th November is cutting things fine but I guess with a cheese-based one it has to be last-minute. Next year maybe stick to a gin advent calendar, you can get that months in advance.

Advent is four weeks long. How is it an “advent calendar” if it isn’t here for the four weeks?

The idea that you could just use it to count down to new year is ridiculous.

Chuckling Cheese Company sound like tw@ts. Like every other company who use Evri. They know they're shit so should deal with the inevitable problems promptly.

It's cheese, there's no bad time to have it. It's extremely entitled to think the company owe you a replacement or a refund because of delays beyond their control.
If you want to start an advent calendar on the 1st, get one from the supermarket.

Of course it should be available for the first if it's sold as an advent calendar...as opposed to a countdown to New Year calendar 🙄

The company sounds beyond incompetent. If it's ordered in October to be delivered by the end of November and it's still not here almost a week after the date it should have arrived then yes I would be expecting a refund.

Yes you could use it after December 1st but the whole bloody point is it counts down to Christmas. If you'd just wanted cheese to eat at a random point in December presumably you wouldn't have forked out for the bloody calendar.

Wondering the same. Why didn't you just have it delivered ASAP when your ordered and then put it away?

Sounds like you ordered it in plenty of time.

If it’s been marketed as an advent calendar it should absolutely be delivered by 1 Dec. the fact that you can still eat the cheese is fairly irrelevant!

I'm surprised they let you choose a delivery date that late for this very reason.

I ordered a food one for my partner and the company said it would be sent in mid-Nov when I put the order in. No choice, which is probably a sensible approach.

Advent calendars are overpriced. You’re paying for the novelty. May as well get a baby of babybel if it’s not turning up soon.

It was a "deliver by" option. They could have sent it any time earlier.

Problems with delivery happen but the company aren't dealing with it. They are just ignoring it. Now I have the best part of £50 tied up in a something I don't have.

If it was 'deliver by' date, this is definitely on the company. Do you know what date they gave it to Evri? If they did it on 28th then it was never going to arrive on time.

And it will have been stored in whichever circle of hell Evri use as a warehouse. The freezer packs will have long since melted. You may find much of the cheese is no longer edible.

Surely it's irrelevant what is in it, it's been sold as an Advent calendar.
It didn't arrive for the start of Advent so yes, they should give you a full refund.

Nope, if it was delivered by 28th it's on them, and they're responsible for organising the delivery appropriately.

A friend once sent us once of those cream tea type hampers which took a month to arrive - fresh scones, clotted cream etc, you can imagine the state it was in by the time we opened it, and the company still tried to argue they fulfilled the order.
