Any bank account that solves this problem?

My friend makes items that she sells on Etsy, to schools, fairs, etc.

I do all the invoicing and P&P to make her life easier.
She wants to open a separate account to make it easier to earmark what she's spending on materials etc.

Is there any way of opening one that gives me access to
a) see that people have paid
b) pay for P&P

This would eliminate her needing to check off invoices before I send and also eliminate the need to transfer me money for P&P...
....but I can't think of any account that would facilitate this as we don't want a joint account...

It sounds like a proper business account is needed for this to enable you the access you need.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 03/12/2024 15:48

A Monzo account with pots? Doesn't sound like she is able to run a business though.

PineappleCoconut · 03/12/2024 15:51

Monzo business lets you have team members, but only in the Pro version which I think is £5 per month.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 03/12/2024 15:51

Yes. There is an online bank, counting up that is very good.

She can open it, and then give you read only access to it.
She can get a credit card for you to use to pay for shipping and packaging.
It tracks profit/loss automatically.

She should have a separate bank account for that anyway tbh.

Onlycoffee · 03/12/2024 15:53

Accounting software connected to the bank account will automatically label transactions.
Eg Xero, frashbooks

Some business banks have free accounting software eg Mettle

It was never meant to be a business, a favour she did for friends which has sorta spiralled

Well she better get her act together because HMRC is watching Etsy
https://www.gbnews.com/money/hmrc-tax-etsy-vinted-side-hustle

She doesn't actually make a profit, just covers costs (by choice).

HMRC is going to be going after based on revenues over £1k.
This account will help her be able to prove she hasn’t made a profit.

lakesiders · 03/12/2024 17:36

I understood it's income not profit. How much has she taken?

VanCleefArpels · 03/12/2024 17:47

Just give you access to the online banking on a new business bank account?

Then what's the point of her doing it?
That's not a side hustle or a business

If she's "sharing" surely that means giving it away ? You said selling in your op.

Almost any bank account will allow third party access, this will give you a view-only of the account. Some will allow a card and some purchases but those will be specific to the different companies.

Or use Paypal connected to her account?

I work in retail bank but only on personal accounts, this sounds like it could be a business account requirement.

Look at Mettle which is fee free. It comes with a subscription free accounting package called FreeAgent where you can categorise costs how you wish.

whirlyhead · 11/05/2026 06:20

Wise. It lets you have admin users on the account. I use it for business and it works well.
