Does teething cause vomiting?

Hi,

My 12 month old is teething and was sick last night. She was also sick last Thursday. Could it be due to teething?

I can't say it's due to a bug or food poisoning as she only vomited once last night and twice on Thursday.

Thanks,

Sara

No I don't think it does, most likely a tummy bug. Best of luck.

No

Teething does cause babies to swallow lots and lots of saliva, which in turn triggers the production of excess stomach acid (as the body gets ready to digest a meal when we salivate.) So it's possible baby is suffering from a very acidy tummy. Usually this causes a sore bum rather than vomiting though.

Hope you figure it out!

No it doesn’t. I’d suspect a tummy bug.

Yes. My eldest dd used to do the odd vomit when teething. Different to a stomach bug vomit

No not usually. Can't remember which of mine did, but one of them used to throw up every time they got a bit mucousy as a toddler, then they grew out of it. It was a pain as meant 48 hours off nursery every time even though it was usually just a cold.

Why do you think it's not a bug if you only vomit once?

user11290 · 02/12/2024 21:19

@jannier because doesn't a big last 24/48 hours and that time had passed so for her to be sick again doesn't make sense? Also wouldnt a bug have more frequent vomiting episodes as opposed to spaced out isolated episodes?

Not necessarily you can vomit once but be contagious, you vomit less if you have a milder case but can still pass it on and as babies mouth toys and don't wash hands it's easier to spread. ..Rota viruses can cause intermittent vomiting if you reintroduce dairy before it's cleared even if no vomiting for several days and eating other foods.
Parents often come out with it was only once so can't be a bug that's a myth.

If they are prone to reflux, the excess saliva can make them sick as the stomach acid can come up while they are lying down
