My dad was discharged on 16th September He died on 6th October. We had the funeral last week. He had prostate cancer which had spread. He was so weak that he fell at the bottom of the stairs and had a cardiac arrest and died. His body had to go to coroner first due to the fall. DM asked for help and was told he wasnt sick enough. He slept in a leaning over position He couldnt get onto a bed properly because he was in so much pain in his back.

Told he wasnt sick enough for help. But i bet if assisted dying had been legal two months ago he would have been told he was sick enough for that! So before you reply the way you have please try and think there is a reason for the way people feel.

Seven or eight months ago i agreed with this bill Now im not so bloody sure. And reading the elderly parents board unsafe discharges are far too common.

As say, I am very sorry for the predicament that you were his own. But your post is full of a lot of holes and contradictions. You knew your dad was sick .He probably should have had better palative care. You also said that your mum begged. For help. Maybe your dad should've had assisted. Dying If it was legal and it might have helped him rather than being so much pain. I can't understand why now you're against it. And potentially, your dad, you knew was dying anyway

Littlemissgobby · 02/12/2024 18:06

However, your dad would still have had the final say.As I say, this bill is not stopping people from having a say

JenniferBooth · 02/12/2024 18:08

Probably???????? Fuck me!!!

imanidiotsandwich · 02/12/2024 18:09

Wow and there it is folks.
Kill them off quicker 'cos they're dying anyway.

DogInATent · 02/12/2024 18:10

Littlemissgobby · 02/12/2024 17:38

Rubbish as docs will tell you even good palative care can not take all the pain away

There's a couple of "palliative care doctors" very active on social media in the last week claiming to have never witnessed a bad death and every passing has brought them new understanding of the human condition.

It's one thing to present a different opinion, but these are people who can't even lie convincingly.

JenniferBooth · 02/12/2024 18:11

I bet the word probably wouldnt have even appeared in that sentence if it was children we were talking about.

I am so sorry to read about your dad. This is the desperate reality of health and social care in the UK in 2024. Our civilised society where vulnerable people are supposedly protected.

Or even if he'd had better palliative care, there is no guarantee he would not have been in pain. That is the problem, which is why people like me believing a choice

I woukd say the same its very sad about children the bill doesn't cover them it's a shame though as I think parents should have a say if they don't want their children to suffer who may have terminal cancer to .

And what guarantee can you give that? Even with the best palliative care, you will not suffer pain.I have researched it.There is no guarantee on that

This attitude that people's lives don't matter if they're going to die soon - I find it appalling enough in the abstract but to say to a poster who's just lot her dad that she knew he was dying anyway and maybe he should have had assisted dying if it was legal - I am lost for words!

@JenniferBooth I am so sorry for your loss Flowers

There is no attitude. It's about taking people's pain away. Why would you want somebody to suffer? Why if they don't want to suffer themselves? Why would you choose for them to suffer.
As much as you find what I am saying, unpalatable, I find it personally unpalatable, why anybody would want a human being to suffer

Littlemissgobby · 02/12/2024 18:18

You have deliberately tried to make our side disgusting and that we don't give a s I would argue that we actually do give a s which is why we're on this side. I think it's your side. That doesn't give a f s*, because if you did, you wouldn't want to see people suffer.

MrsPeregrine · 02/12/2024 18:20

I won’t bother posting anymore on these threads other than to say they seem to be intended as echo chambers for those in favour of AD who want to feel that their feelings about it are validated. I feel sorry for those in the medical profession who will be dragged into this. We aren’t ready for it.

Are you f kidding me? We have just had on here over the last post. As well, s loaded people trying to say we're not ready for this. We shouldn't be having this, it's all unethical, it's all really bad, mostly done by religious dogma or other b, but yeah, you can't tolerate how we think we are ready for it, because for sicker people seeing suffering. I maybe did not word my word to that person very well about her. Dying and her unfortunately, dead dad, which I'm very, very sorry about, but ultimately, she was let down with pallative care. Yes, but come off, it if he had the choice of assisted dying. It would have been much better for himself

We're not talking about people who have freely chosen AD, were talking about people who, though they are terminally ill, even if they are suffering, do not want to die.

You are saying it doesn't matter if their lives are ended because they would die soon anyway.

DogInATent · 02/12/2024 18:24

I don’t think you’ve needed anybody’s help in making your views disgusting. With respect you’ve made your position as clear as you csn. Your comments to @JenniferBooth are a disgrace but are also very illuminating.

I know that you’ll probably respond with yet another barely legible rant but it will add nothing to the discussion. Please do consider your responses before typing them.

Well, unfortunately, they are going to die anyway, so what you're gonna do about it, they are going to die. Nobody is going to force them to have assisted dying if they don't want it. But maybe they have to come to terms they are going to die.I think if you've got six months left to live. You probably are aware you are going to die

First of all, I used speech recognition, because I can't very see because I've got cateract in one of my eyes, so please do not pick up and be a pedant about how I speak.
You have been nothing but very, shall we say condescending about how people speak? I think you think is some sort of intellectual. Maybe you are, but the truth of the matter is no matter what you say, it doesn't matter what you say, we will not come to your side because the truth is people are suffering and they shouldn't be suffering and even if they wasn't suffering. They should be allowed the choice to end how they want to end. Because that's how human should be. We should have body autonomy and people who agree with abortion should really be on the same side as this because, at the end of the day. It's your body your choice

Also, my views are not disgusting at all. See what I mean by this condescending attitude. My views are not disgusting. I simply would not, and do not think
That human beings should be allowed to suffer and live long time with what? For what reason? I sometimes think we are selfish. because we want our relatives to live a long time but at what cost what costs for that individual person who is suffering
