Leaving teaching to go into NHS jobs or children in care related jobs

Am I making a mistake, is the grass really greener on the other side ? NHS would mean quite a bit of a pay cut. But I am currently supplying and just hating teaching because of all the stress and the leadership in schools.

You need to give more info about what sort of roles you are considering.

NHS jobs do not tend to be lower stress. Boy the reason to move out of a school

It depends what role you’re considering really? NHS Pay isn’t fantastic but the pension/annual leave/maternity pay etc can make the positions more favourable.

Education and learning coordinator roles, or admissions coordinator at NHS. Or Children in care coordinator roles at colleges- SEND related. Anything that is a bit more office/ admin related. Not sure what I can lookout for say at universities as they have roles. Do NHS give flexible hour options ?

Your question is way too broad as so much depends on the team you end up working for, the specific policies of the NHS trust etc. With flexible working for instance: my trust allows this and gives priority to people with a child under 5, but I know that the willingness of individual managers and teams to encourage this sort of arrangement differs.

What I will say though is that personally, I moved from teaching to the NHS a few years ago and have never looked back. Maybe I've just been lucky but I have never found any NHS work half as stressful or management so toxic as when working in schools. I'm in a pretty high-pressure patient-facing role. I can't believe how much managers trust you to get on with things compared to when I was a teacher. Teaching was so rewarding at times but I wouldn't want to return.

Good luck with the decision - I hope you find something right for you.
