To think 40 is a young age to have a stroke?

Our female neighbour had one the other night and some people were commenting saying it's because she's older now. (She turned 40 a month ago).
I personally think it's a young age to be having strokes with no underlying health issues (We know her fairly well).

It is younger than average but not unheard of - I've heard of a baby having a stroke. But I would not describe someone who had one at 40 as having had it because they're "older!" It's still young enough to be surprising.

DreamW3aver · 01/12/2024 10:04

Why and who are all the people commenting on a neighbours health issues?

There are statistics on the age that people have strokes so not really something that can be unreasonable, why not share the helpful links above with all the people who are expressing opinions

What a ridiculous post! How can you possibly know it’s not related to the jab. There’s been loads of cases of people having strokes related to it.

How dare you blame lifestyle and then try to push the “Covid” narrative into people. People aren’t buying it anymore thankfully. The medical scandal has come out and the genie won’t go back in the bottle now.

The rise is strokes in young people has been well documented with a rise in obesity.
COVID has caused a further increase and the jab a small number too.
But lifestyle is the most likely factor and fits as to why more young people are having strokes. If it was just the jab it would be disproportionately affecting older people as they have had far more vaccines than the young.

bluebeck · 01/12/2024 10:10

A friend of mine had two strokes aged 36 (years before Covid)

40 is middle aged but I wouldn’t get hung up on the terminology used. Surely that’s the least of anyone’s concerns.

LittleMG · 01/12/2024 10:12

My son had a stroke as he was born. It can happen at any age it’s just more common in older people.

zingally · 01/12/2024 10:41

I've just turned 40, and would be shocked and saddened to either have a stroke myself, or for any of my contemporaries to have one.

I don't know anyone "young" who has had one. My dad had a suspected very mild one at 61, but doctors weren't convinced, although he did have some of the symptoms.

kitteninabasket · 01/12/2024 10:42

I had a TIA (mini stroke) at 25, it was a complication of a medical procedure.

Pussycat22 · 01/12/2024 10:44

With the obesity epidemic there will be a lot more.

Nousernamesleftatall · 01/12/2024 10:45

It’s a side effect of the Covid vaccine. Did she have it do you know?

Dontcallmescarface · 01/12/2024 11:19

DP had one during his birth. Covid, jabs and a bad lifestyle definitely not factors for his.

Pollymollydolly · 01/12/2024 11:27

Can you link the peer reviewed research to support your claim?

There is plenty of research evidencing the link between covid infection and stroke. I’d be very interested to see the research to support your claim.

Interestingly, research led by the universities of Cambridge, Bristol and Edinburgh found the opposite - incidence of heart attack and stroke was lower after covid vaccination.

Apologies, my last post was to @Nousernamesleftatall

Those that work with stroke victims - would you say it's rising with younger people these days? Anything to do with the jab 👀 - we knew a few younger people in the last few years that have had one

I’ve known younger women have strokes pre-Covid, and it was put down to the contraceptive pill.

Diarygirlqueen · 01/12/2024 11:33

My husband had a stroke at 45, with life changing injuries. He was the youngest in the ward and due to his age, they investigated the reason. They found a hole in his heart.

I hope your neighbour is OK.

Pollymollydolly · 01/12/2024 11:42

@Diarygirlqueen I’m sorry this happened to your Dh. Did he have the PFO closed? A family member had a stroke caused by a clot originating in the PFO, he was lucky with where the stroke ‘hit’ in the brain and has no lasting complications. He also had the closure and no longer needs to take medication other than daily aspirin. I hope it’s the same for your Dh

IKnitHats · 01/12/2024 11:48

My sister was 29 when she has a brain heamorrhage - caused by cavernous angioma.

Destiny123 · 01/12/2024 12:00

It is. But having worked as a stroke Dr its certainly not rare. There's lots of conditions that predispose young strokes (clotting disorders, small hole in the heart etc which will be screened for in due course

DuesToTheDirt · 01/12/2024 12:10

I think it's young, though I knew someone who was early 30s, had a stroke and died a few days later. This was 30 years ago, so no connection to Covid.

Still on the waiting list to get the procedure done, coming up to 4 years. Unfortunately, he wasn't found straightaway so there is significant damage. I'm glad it's worked out for your cousin.

It's a misconception that stroke is an "older persons" issue. Sadly many in their 30s and 40s have them, and this has been an increasing trend over the past few years and a trend which is likely to continue to increase.

confusedlots · 01/12/2024 13:01

Yes it is young, but surprisingly common. My good friend in her early 40's had a stroke a few months ago, she's very fit, active and healthy. Really shocked me and it's obviously come up in conversation with a few different groups of people who all have similar stories to tell of people they know of a similar age who have suffered strokes.

Pollymollydolly · 01/12/2024 13:18

@Diarygirlqueen sorry to hear that - I hope he doesn’t have to wait much longer to have the closure.

ChirpyDreamer · 01/12/2024 16:17

I had one age 23. The only possible link was I was taking the contraceptive pill. Had a series of blood tests to see if there was a genetic reason but nothing flagged up. Thankfully I only have mild sight issues, and am not allowed any hormonal contraception. I was the youngest on the stroke ward at the time by far

ChirpyDreamer · 01/12/2024 16:18

This was also back in 2009 so well before Covid

MemoryFaker · 01/12/2024 16:22

I was 22. But I have APS.
