Wasn’t someone going absolutely spare on another thread a couple of weeks ago about non alcoholic cocktails at a sleepover? Maybe a bit risky unless you know the other parents would approve.

I will ask them about it

just girls

No, I mean - do boys entertain themselves but girls need an activity at 10? I don’t have girls so don’t know if there are different expectations at parties… when I was that age, we just sat or in summer wandered around chatting.

Look up the thread the other day about non alcoholic cocktails at a sleepover before you do that 😂

I probably won’t because it could make them sick even if I do ask they parents

Nope. I have boys and girls and I always had an activity on hand. The boys tended to do gaming on the switch on 4 player mode, then watch a movie, hot chocolate, bed. I never force an activity I suggest options. It would be suggested that the boys could make cupcakes or the girls game but this is what they tended to choose.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 30/11/2024 08:58

I'd definitely leave them to it. I'd have felt really embarrassed if my mum had arranged activities for us at that age🤣

What about a hot chocolate station instead.

You could have some jewellery making crafty bits on hand.

What's wrong with non-alcoholic cocktails? At this age it's more about the umbrellas, maraschino cherries, sparklers, orange slices, etc. If you're worried about a 10 year old showing up with a sneaky bottle of smirnoff, you've got more problems than cocktails!

jkshdqpr · 30/11/2024 09:05

This is just mental to me, how lacking in imagination must a kid be to require a parent to "suggest options"?! When mine have sleepovers they're so excited they're off and I don't see them again!

my daughter just gets bored after a few hours that’s all

Possibly because she's being pandered to with "activities" if you let her get a little bored she will use her brain, especially with friends, I'd be very surprised if a group of 10 year olds get bored and can't think of anything to do on a sleepover.

My child would feel sick drinking lots of mixed juices and you are basically encouraging kids to drink lots of sugar before bedtime.

Quite weird that children role play drinking alcohol. I guess they used to make chewing gum cigarettes for kids too.

I know it’s like they want them to drink and smoke 🤣

I would usually have an activity ready just in case.

Cupcake decorating has always gone down well

Crafty stuff also good.

Face masks and nail varnish premiering stuff maybe?

HPandthelastwish · 30/11/2024 09:12

I do make your own pizza - one of DDs friends has allergies so easier to make her pizza herself than order one.

Gingerbread men / rich tea - icing pens and sprinkles to decorate their own biscuits

Popcorn, sweets and fizzy

Leave a pile of board games out

Then I leave them to their own devices.

DDs friends have been coming here for 10 years and I assumed they wouldn't want to decorate biscuits last time as they are 15. About 7pm they came out looking for the stuff for it 🤣 and then I went into the living room and found they'd managed to dig out the Play D'oh destined for the charity shop.

Well my boys are autistic so yes, they sometimes struggled with spontaneous play for 6 or 7 hours. Thanks for dissing my kids and me for doing things differently from you and your amazing excited imaginative spontaneous kids. And my daughter is a planner.

It's hardly a crime or a big issue to have a chat before the big night to see what they might like to do, in case you need to get stuff in. I am not talking a regimented "right, it's 6:32 pm we are moving on to activity #32 in the schedule" approach. Just a chat and a plan that can be abandoned if they are already busy doing other stuff.
