Undereye eczema

Getting desperate so positing here for traffic - sorry!!

20yo DD has had worsening eczema under one eye for about 6 months. What started off as a slight bit of dryness in the crease underneath her eye is now a massive angry, red and scaly patch. She looks like she’s been punched in the eye to be frank.. Getting increasingly self conscious as she can’t cover it with makeup.

Have tried various different emollients recommended by the GP and nurse friends who work in dermatology (Epaderm, Aveeno, Avéne Cicalfate, Eucerin AtoControl to name a few) but nothing helps. The only thing that works is hydrocortisone cream however this isn’t recommended for under eye use due to various risks. She only uses it when she absolutely has to

Private dermatologist can’t see her for another 6 weeks hence I’m reaching out to MN! Any ideas or experience of this?

In the past, my GP was happy to prescribe oral steroids. Because I have glaucoma which is potentially affected by steroids, this is no longer an option. But it may be fine for your daughter.

Sympathy for your DD - I get this and it's horrible.
In my case what helped was removing all possible allergens. Nothing on my face except plain water for washing and coconut oil to moisturise. When rinsing my hair in the shower I took care to keep the shampoo off my face. I'm sensitive to dairy and refined wheat, so cut those right down. No eye makeup or foundation, just a bit of lipstick.
The eczema disappeared very gradually over about six months.

Thank you for all of the suggestions everyone - seems like Protopic or Tacrolimus will be the best bet. Going to ring again and try to get a sooner dermatology appt in the morning, fingers crossed!
