I work in a target-driven job. It's not sales but involves processing a certain number of customers' applications per day. A week and a half ago we were moved to processing a completely new type of application that most of us had no experience with before. We were given a couple of days' training, which was not sufficient given the amount of material to cover and the gravity of the work we do. We were then expected to start working through applications. We have targets for this which increase each week until the targets hit a certain level, at which point they stop increasing.
We have felt a lot of pressure from management to process applications quickly, even though we are only getting to grips with the new work. If we don't meet our targets a certain week, we are expected to justify why we haven't. This week we have been told that those who consistently meet or exceed their targets for the rest of the year will receive a sizeable bonus, which increases according to by how much we surpass our targets. I feel this is unfair as it favours the minority in our team who have had experience of working in this department previously as they are more likely to meet their targets. But it is unfair mostly because we are still only learning to process these applications and it puts us under undue pressure and mistakes will inevitably be made, causing more problems down the line.
