So after a couple of glasses of wine I applied to pitch my little Mum business to a room full of successful entrepreneurs and wealthy investors…

And they offered me a spot 😮

It’s an event in the city for start ups who are looking for a co-founder. I don’t know what I was thinking. My business is far too small for this. You can barely call it a business! I’m an idiot.

AIBU to cancel or should I style it out and pitch my little business anyway, at the risk of looking stupid? Or should I just not go? I can’t decide so I thought I’d ask you lot 😂.

OK thanks all. I’m working on my pitch now…

Make sure you know all your numbers. That's the one thing I've learned from Dragons Den.

head2toeinuniqlo · 27/11/2024 09:30

I did it!!! I pitched my start-up business to a room of about 200 people. Thank you all so much for the support. Particularly to those of you who told me to stop referring to it as a ‘little mum business’. I previously won an award for one of my products, so need to start taking myself seriously.

At the networking drinks afterwards, a gentleman came over to me and said he was looking to invest in forward-thinking businesses like mine. He gave me his card and said he would contact me to meet with him and his business partner.

Also one of the organisers came over to me afterwards and said one of the sponsors of the event would like to talk to me as she was interested in my business.

Oops. Didn't RTFT so wrote the below before seeing the decision was already made - well done @head2toeinuniqlo

Go! Give it a try.
It's ok to try even if you don't get an investor, but ime the process of consolidating your pitch and getting ready to descrobe ehat you are doing and what you want to do next will be incredibly helpful on a personal level, and the feedback you get if/when they tell you no will be really useful. It's a golden opportunity which will give you a boost even if it doesn't get you an investor.

Dweetfidilove · 27/11/2024 10:17

Go for it 👍🏾💪🏾

DreadPirateRobots · 27/11/2024 10:17

Well done OP! I would 100% have told you to go for it and the absolute worst case scenario would be that you wouldn't get investment but would undoubtedly still benefit from the experience of doing the pitch. But I see it went even better than that!

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" might be cliched toxic positivity business blather but unfortunately it's also true. Congratulations on not throwing away your shot 😁

Thatwouldbeme · 27/11/2024 10:24

I don't know you but I'm very proud of you and for you. Good luck for the future.

poppymango · 27/11/2024 10:27

Go for it!! What's the absolute worst thing that can happen? You'll feel more confident about yourself and your business once you've got up and pitched in front of them, and it might be the start of something very exciting. Good luck!

CocoapuffPuff · 27/11/2024 10:53

Brilliant update OP.

Hoppinggreen · 27/11/2024 10:56

Edited as I was offering (free) help but It looks like @head2toeinuniqlo doesn't need it 😀

hamsandyams · 27/11/2024 10:56

Well done - and remember this always when you feel like you’re lacking confidence, others can sometimes see your worth before you can!

This is amazing - well done you! So please to hear you didn't call it your little mum business!

I hope you are proud of yourself.

Gosh that was jolly quick and quite early in the morning

It wasn't early in the morning, it was yesterday evening. I'm in Australia.

Renamed · 28/11/2024 18:57

Oh I see! Sorry. Well that makes a lot more sense, it looked like you were working on your pitch at 21.57 and the event was over at 09.30! I really should have thought of Australia rather than “? Vampire?” Well congratulations.

head2toeinuniqlo · 28/11/2024 20:47

Thanks @Renamed.

I am really grateful for all the replies here. By the way, my business is in skincare. If anybody who posted here would like to try a free sample, I would be happy to send you one. If that’s allowed in the MN rules
