Ds is autistic and has a weight issue. He has significant SEN, including learning delays, speech delays, motor skills issues and severe anxiety & ocd, he is in mainstream, he is in the cusp between too high needs for mainstream but needs not high enough for a Sen school.

he is under professionals to try and get his weight under control, they approach it in a small step holistic way which is helping so far alongside almost daily bike rides weather depending. We first noticed a change in his weight when he started sedentary school due to anxiety, comfort eating and lack of physical exercise. It’s hard as he doesn’t really fully get it all and is demand avoidant. He has also been in crisis with his mental health in the past but things were getting better. He also has a limited diet due to sensory needs.

ds has one special close friend who also has Sen.

most of the year group are fantastic and have no issues but there’s a selected few who torment both ds about his weight and also torment his special friend! Saying he’s fat, needs to eat more fruit and veg!

how do you approach this? Particularly when Sen is involved? I’ve emailed the school. His weight and SEN does make him vulnerable.

I just don’t know what to do about it.

anyone experienced similar?
