Getting DS onto tea and coffee

spanieleyes22 · 25/11/2024 20:55

Just wondering how did you start your dc on tea or coffee. DS refuses to try either ! It doesn't matter but I feel bad for him that he never has a hot drink . Maybe I didn't push it on him early enough . DD used to spend time at my parents and she always wanted tea if they had it so they'd give her a weak milky cup. I think she started on mochas and gradually started to like coffee

You need to start with a good strong espresso as soon as you wean or they never get into it properly

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 25/11/2024 22:01

I didn't drink tea or coffee until I went to uni, our house in first year was freezing. Even now I go most of the summer without a tea or coffee, and days without in winter then occasionally I'll have one or the other, or a fruit/herbal tea. Why do you think it's necessary?

BlondeFool · 25/11/2024 22:01

My 22 year old hates tea, coffee and squash. 19 year old likes tea. Surely it's up to the Individual if they want to drink it.

My DD likes a cup of tea now and again, usually over the weekend with a bacon sandwich! Other than that it's hot chocolate or good old plain water! My DSS also loves a cup of tea. Neither of them are remotely interested in coffee but then me and DH only really drink tea, so that figures!

CarrotPencil · 25/11/2024 22:06

Wow I didn’t realise this was yet another milestone we had to worry about 😁 DS age 9 has liked a tea for about a year but I make it decaf and milky, and he prefers with a sugar but I always ‘forget’ and half the time he doesn’t ask for one. And I’m stressed that’s too early for tea (even decaf has a bit of caffeine!) and it’s gonna stunt his growth!

HaleyBrookeandPeyton · 25/11/2024 22:07

I'm an adult & don't drink hot drinks at all. No tea, coffee, hot squash when poorly etc - I absolutely hate the sensation of hot liquid in my mouth.

I wouldn't be bothered by your dc not drinking hot drinks at all - it's quite normal to not like them!

TheCanterburyWails · 25/11/2024 22:09

Maybe start with a small expresso and work your way up to bigger cups. Let us know how it goes. 👍

mammaCh · 25/11/2024 22:11

Why can't he have another hot drink? My youngest has mint/camomile/lavender/fruit tea or hot choc. Even hot mixed fruit squash!

Perhaps try getting them on to beer and wine first? Then tea and coffee as they get older?

I'm joking, don't do that!

Why on earth would you willingly want them to drink tea or coffee?

You can give alternatives such as hot milk, hot chocolate occasionally or even warm squash. But really, hot drinks aren't a necessity.

😁 Maybe just a drop of Jameson’s 🥃
in his water bottle for school. Then switch him to Irish coffee ;) ☘️ ☕️ 🥃

Why is this a thread? How little do
you have going on in your life that you’ve sat down and thought about this, and decided to ask for suggestions to get your child to drink tea or coffee?

2Sensitive · 25/11/2024 22:18

I hope this post is genuine 😊 & not a joke 🙏🏻.
I would love to be the person whose only ‘problem’ is this 🫖 ☕️ 💅🏻

There some fucking weird shit posted on MN sometimes

ZippyLimeSnake · 25/11/2024 22:31

All 3 of my DC will have a hot chocolate if they want something hot. They’re 3, 8 & 14. Eldest DC does occasionally have a tea or weak coffee/mocha but tends to go through phases with that. I love tea & coffee & have since being a teen. My brother only started liking coffee once he went to uni.

It’s not a must, perhaps have the choice of Hot Chocolate, fruit tea or squash if you’d like him to try warm drinks. Warm Ribena is lovely.

Onthesideofthespiders · 25/11/2024 22:36

I do remember my youngest being so excited to become an adult because he could “have toffee all day long.” He thought we were all having cups of toffee!

HooMoo · 25/11/2024 22:40

um you don’t

it was only my first office job at 21 I started to drink tea

Discombobble · 25/11/2024 22:41

Hot chocolate, hot squash? - no one NEEDS to drink tea or coffee!

bringmorewashing · 25/11/2024 23:10

Well this is a new one.

My parents never offered me caffeine, and I didn't start to like coffee until I was in my mid 20s (despite working in a coffee shop in my teens!)

Half-Italian DD will probably be weaned on double espresso though.

Apollo365 · 25/11/2024 23:12

I will admit to you all, I have never admitted before. I judge people who don’t like tea or coffee. I find it weird 🤣

Well what a silly thing to judge people on.

I know!!! I can’t help it! 😅

TheMaenads · 25/11/2024 23:17

You have to put it in their baby bottles from three months, didn’t you know? Or if you’re breastfeeding, live on strong espressos until your breast milk is pretty much a Costa latte.
