...to consider Christmas jumpers the very definition of nauseating twee?

...and, while I'm at it, Christmas pyjamas. I know someone who has a Christmas duvet set, for God's sake.

I'm not against Christmas. Tree, lights, It's a Wonderful Life, chocolate orange - I can handle all that. Embrace it even.

But Christmas jumpers? Not even for charity. Two quid to wear a Christmas jumper at work? Nah. Here's a tenner - I'm out.

Obviously one wants to weed out the utterly unacceptable as early as possible. To that end, my opening question tends to be ‘how horrible is the humiliation that we as a civilised society should inflict on Will Farrell?’

It’s rather worrying how many people can’t even get past that one by simply saying,‘Very’.

Edited

Will Ferrell movies are used to torture captured extremists.

Except for Elf. Elf is cool and must be watched every year as part of the Christmas Ritual. Crying when they sing is compulsory.

Otherwise I am completely and utterly with you on Will Ferrell.

The only likeable character in that movie is Peter Dinklage’s. It’s a pity he couldn’t bring some mediaeval Throne action down on Ferrell.

I bought a new one today in anticipation for December (charity shop, don't shoot me). They seem to shrink while in storage over the year though, hence needing a new one.

I have several, plus pyjamas, I like them, I don't care

User346897543 · 26/11/2024 06:41

Oh socks ! I've got socks too ! And if anyone comments on my Last Xmas jumper with pic of my beloved George then I will fight them

MushMonster · 26/11/2024 06:46

I do love Christmas! It reminds me of all my childhood years with family, with my own young family, how we have grown and changed over the years. I do love anything Christmassy, but can we wait till at least Dec? If we stsrt too early, it loses some of the magic for me.

MushMonster · 26/11/2024 06:48

By the way, so many many deeply felt thanks to all the people that decorate their homes and/ or open the curtains to display their tree. They put a smile on my face, every time!

MushMonster · 26/11/2024 07:04

And thank you to people who wears Christmas jumpers, socks, earrings, scarfs, head bands and so on and on....
😆

Roll on January, and an end to the peak of the seasonal moaning. We've got through Halloween and Bonfire Night, just the boring Christmas moanfest to go.....

Irish times: One in three people under 35 buy a new Christmas jumper every year. Two in five Christmas jumpers are only worn once before being thrown away, contributing to the 100 billion garments sent to landfill globally each year

Edited

This is disgraceful but agree with pp that plenty of people do this all year round. Most garments are worn less than 7 times before reaching landfill, many are never worn.

Fast fashion is out of control. Though at our school there's plenty of kids in Christmas jumpers all through winter and Christmas long sleeve t-shirts well into late spring.

I love a Christmas jumper but most of mine are both second hand and been in my possession a long time. My kids one are largely all second hand, worn till they're too small and then donated to the school for the Christmas jumper second hand sale.

I buy my kids new PJs for Christmas Eve but as they're growing they tend to need new ones every year anyway. I stopped buying myself new ones unless I've also grown Blush or less likely, shrunk.

The amount of crap being created and dumped is truly sickening though. You're obviously very right but I bloody love a Christmas jumper nonetheless. I can hear my box calling from the loft in fact, not long to go now!

OldTinHat · 26/11/2024 07:46

I've never had a Christmas jumper but my dog has one!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/11/2024 07:49

Ive never had a Christmas jumper. They weren't a thing when I was younger. My son was given one when he was a teenager by his girlfriend's mother, though, two years in a row, before they split. I think she took pity on him .

That's after valentine's.

And surely those who check the contents of their prospective partners clothing draw will definitely hate that.

Me neither, but my DGC have had them. I quite like some of them, but not the ones I saw recently in Lidl. Part of the design spells LIDL. They also sell trainers and other bits of clothing with their brand name on. Who buys those?

MushMonster · 26/11/2024 18:32

They may be following up from the Greggs logo merchandise, which got quite a lot of success selling tracks suits at Primark.
I have not seen any Lidl one.
Neither the Greggs in the streets, but I know of people who bought it as lounge clothing.

My middle son had a Tesco Value one a couple of years ago. It wasn't from Tesco, but had the logo. He's weird like that 🤣

MushMonster · 26/11/2024 19:25

The Greggs ones did look really good indeed!

JubileeJuice · 26/11/2024 19:39

I hate this time of year on Mumsnet. Every other thread is about how tacky/chavvy/twee/insert-other-derogatory-word-here people are for liking things that the OP doesn't.

I don't really get it. People like different things. What someone wears, puts on their bed, sleeps in etc has absolutely no impact on anyone else. It's just an excuse to be nasty about others.

Weird.
