To ask what this rash is

Posting here for traffic

baby is 3 months old.

the rash has been there for about 2 months now. Sometimes it’s like this sometimes it fades a bit but never completely goes!
went to the gp over a month ago and she said there were a few things it could be but wasn’t sure so wanted a pediatrician to see. Pediatrics review clinic at hospital said appointment waiting time was 6 weeks so I was better off going to A&E as I’d be seen quicker as they’re so young. We did this. Pediatrician at hospital was sure either. She said it doesn’t look obviously like something in particular but that becuase he’s otherwise fit and well they’re not concern. They took swabs and said they’d be in touch if the swabs came back with anything concerning or requiring treatment. Never heard from them. Over a month later and it’s still here.
any ideas what it could be?
(yellow bit is poo - i was in the middle of cleaning nappy explosion and that’s when I noticed the rash had got really prominent again).
thanks in advance if anyone can please enlighten me as to what this is. I’ll take him back to gp on Monday but in the meantime if anyone has ever seen something like this before is really appreciate knowing.
thanks in advance! X

Is it only on the legs? It’s a little difficult to make out clearly from the pictures. Any chance it could be a reaction to something like detergent on clothes/bedding etc. or possibly a food intolerance through your milk if breastfed? My baby had a bit of something like baby acne in the earlier months but I don’t remember them being as large as those, they did fade eventually.

Msrachel · 23/11/2024 22:24

It looks a little like bug bites maybe?

Silvertulips · 23/11/2024 22:29

I also thought bites.

Do you have animals?

Onlyvisiting · 23/11/2024 22:30

Does it seem itc5h? Do you have pets? Looks like flea bites to me!
Doesn't really look like a rash in the picture, more like individual bites from something.
(Not being judgy, I grew up with cats in the days before decent flea treatment, the odd bite wasn't unusual!)

MyCatIsBeautiful · 23/11/2024 22:32

Looks like bites

PoorUncleBarry · 23/11/2024 22:33

Hmm, looks like baby acne (my son had it quite large) or flea bites but those tend to cluster on the legs/ankles in smaller groups.

Weenurse · 23/11/2024 22:33

I was going to say bug bites, either fleas of mosquitoes

Ellax · 23/11/2024 22:48

i noticed my cat had fleas a couple weeks ago. I treated him, and now he doesn’t seem to have any. I also boiled the bed sheets. He doesn’t come on my bed anyway? Baby always sleeps in a sleep suit at night - could a flea get through that?

I don’t have any bites (we co-sleep)

if it was flea bites that would make me feel sick and awful.

could it actually be that???

Pandasnacks · 23/11/2024 22:50

It absolutely could yeah. Fleas will be in your carpets and soft furnishings, they're a nightmare to get rid of.

Tel12 · 23/11/2024 22:52

You need to treat your cat again. If you can afford it get something from the vets. My dog has tablets that protect for 3 months at a time. If not get something like Frontline.

Silvertulips · 23/11/2024 22:53

You get bitten you just don’t react.

Maybe look at some bug spray for the babies legs until you can sort it out?

vaccum everyday.

When you de flea an animal make sure it’s outside away from the house and they jump off .

bestbefore · 23/11/2024 22:54

If you have fleas use this spray to get rid of them Indorex Flea spray but only if you see them in the house

Ellax · 23/11/2024 22:54

@Pandasnacks but wouldn’t I be getting bites too?? (We co sleep)

OP posts:
Ellax · 23/11/2024 22:59

Don’t think it could be bed bugs as mattress is only a few months old.

i feel absolutely sick at the prospect of my baby being bitten by disgusting fleas.

if it’s definitely that please tell me what to do to get rid of them asap

Children seem more susceptible to flea bites, and react more when they get them, so it's plausible that fleas would either avoid you (preferring squidgy baby legs) or you wouldn't react to them.

Flea treatments don't immediately kill fleas, they usually make female fleas infertile, and cause all fleas to get over-active, resulting in their death. A vetinary pharmacist told me that only this week weirdly enough!

@Pandasnacks but wouldn’t I be getting bites too?? (We co sleep)

No not necessarily, they tend to go for kids more. If it was the height of summer maybe but this time of year numbers are generally a bit lower.

MissMoneyFairy · 23/11/2024 23:04

They do look like bites, fleas need to be treated with spray. They live in carpets. Soft furnishings. Mattresses.

Mossstitch · 23/11/2024 23:25

Some people react more to insect bites, like an allergic reaction, but others don't so you wouldn't notice you had been bitten necessarily. I definitely react like that to bites even midge bites in the garden but can also react like that (hives) to perfumes, detergents, soaps etc so trial and error to find out which it is. Try only using non biological sensitive skin laundry detergent, no conditioner and simple bodywash without perfume if cat flea treatment doesn't rectify it.

LL1991 · 23/11/2024 23:25

Does look like bites rather than a rash. I'd not call that a rash at all. I'd say get all your animals treated, wash all bedding on a 60 and maybe keep pets out of the bedroom you cosleep in (at least for a while).

Stravaig · 23/11/2024 23:30

but wouldn’t I be getting bites too?? (We co sleep)

Not necessarily.

It could be that you're both getting bitten, but you don't react to the bites whereas baby does. OR, the bugs prefer baby and are only biting them.

I once got preferentially bitten for a few weeks, while no-one else in the bed did! (Different looking bites to this though, teeny tiny and dozens each night. Never did find out what they were.)

mullyluo · 23/11/2024 23:39

My son was getting marks like this on his hands and face they would get better and then seem to randomly come back again, I was really worried it was fleas/bed bug. I got all his bedding changed and spray carpet and skirting with indorex. He hasn't had them since, not actually sure if it was bugs the spots seemed to appear randomly for a few months. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

Onlyvisiting · 24/11/2024 00:03

What did you treat your cat with? Frontline hasn't worked as well fir years sadly, if it was something you got in a pet shot I'd go to the vets and get something better. Ask their advice on how best to treat so it has a lasting effect. And treat any carpets with the spray mentioned etc. You can get something called flea bombs I think, buy be careful with treating the house with the baby. Either make sure they are uber safe ones or maybe take baby to sleep somewhere else overnight will you blitz the house.
Bu don't panic too much, they are manky but unlikely to cause any real issue other than itching x

Ellax · 27/11/2024 19:58

m@Onlyvisiting and everyone else thank you for your advice! I hoovered and got that spray. Also go the proper stuff from vet and treated dog and cat. Hopefully that’ll be the end of it!! X
