Turn off your F-ing phone in the cinema!

I went to see Wicked today. Lots of kids in the cinema; they were beautifully behaved and was a lovely atmosphere. However, at least three grown adults repeatedly got their phones out on full brightness to have a little scroll and a text conversation.

It’s rare to go to the cinema and this NOT happen these days. Is nowhere sacred?! We have a real problem if the general public cannot go a couple of hours without checking their device…sets a real example to the kids too. The worst one was a couple of years ago at a Star Wars film and a woman was sat next to me playing a game on her phone(!). I politely asked her to stop and was met with abuse. She did stop when a member of staff came over but then muttered about me under her breath for the next half hour!

Apart from an attempt at taking my SEN child to a viewing of paw patrol I haven’t been to the cinema in years. Too many idiots on their phones, talking loudly or constantly up and down. Plus my local cinema always plays the film so loud I’m deaf by the time it’s over. Now it’s obvious DS can’t manage to sit in the same spot that long I won’t be back. I’ll just wait and watch the film from the comfort of my own sofa where I can control the volume and pause it if needed.

Surely people coming to the cinema on the wrong day should be picked up by staff checking the tickets as they enter?

I'm pleased to say that in a very busy screening of Paddington last Sunday pretty much everyone was well behaved. A couple of toddlers got restless & were playing on the stairs but they were easy to ignore and the sound of the film drowned out any other noise

Anything which actually disturbs others is wrong, but generally it is just a cinema, not a live performance, so some arguments about respect to the creators are just pretentious.

I often use my phone (with headphones/sound off and dimmed screen) during advertisements and trailers, as I don't like graphic violence on screen and the cinemas don't care what trailers they show before absolutely nice movies.

YANBU. This drives me mad. I go to quite a few live music gigs and it pisses me off when someone is constantly scrolling through their phone. I have no problem with people using their phone to take a photo or record a bit of the event,it's when they're sitting there messaging their friends and posting stuff on Facebook that I get irritated. But if you dare to say anything to them, they act like YOU are the one being unreasonable!
