To think it’s better to take at least two days off sick instead of just one?

A colleague mentioned that taking just one day off sick makes it seem like I wasn’t really ill, while two days gives the impression that I needed proper recovery time. I usually take a day if I’m unwell and feel okay the next day, but now I’m wondering if taking two might actually seem more legitimate. AIBU to think this is true, or does it sound like overthinking?

Well I think your friend is talking nonsense tbh. Sometimes one day is all you need to feel better. Especially if it's a Friday or a Monday (as you have the weekend tagged on IYWSIM.) Some people don't get paid for days off, and can't afford to take 2 days when they only need one.

I'd say take the time you need.
If you had a sick bug I think the NHS advises two days.
I sprained my ankle badly one day, I had to call in sick as I couldn't walk. I went in the next as I had crutches.
I've had multiple days off for MH, work one day, go home early the next, get to work only to be unable to actually do anything and go home before my start time.
Ive had single days off for things like a cold/flu. I lost my voice so was unable to work, but the next day my voice was better/ok so I went in.

I think it's all relative and if your manager doesn't believe that you are actually sick then thats an issue they can raise directly with you.
I think it would look bad/odd to always be taking two days when youre ill

I always try and take 2 days, if i've been ill day before I won't go in following day but it's normally because I am not 100%, or i'm tired from being ill

I have a friend who does this too - she thinks it's much more believable to have a Monday and Tuesday off, on the grounds that no one believes you're sick on a Monday.
