Hi everyone. Not sure where to start ... Ok so we got keys to our disabled adapted house in January been decorating and prepping when money has allowed and time after caring for disabled husband and son .... Finally finished the lounge this month and due to funds used a pay per week carpet company if this is relevant... Anyway had the carpet fitted on Wednesday during a snow storm here in NOTTINGHAM and freezing conditions... Fitted arrived alone when I've been used to 2 fitters pre COVID times and cost of living crisis etc ... Bought in carpet folded over his shoulder for context it's a 3.5 x 3.5 meter ish room not in a tube and bent in the middle .... Carpet is now laid with ripples in that he said are there because it's cold and when it acclimate to the room it will settle .. I don't know what to do so my aibu is I don't know what would you do thankyou for all reading ... Photos are the carpet the tiles underneath and the work we had done on the chimney breast the wire is removed and along the wall for TV access the room is north facing and gets no natural sun or if any very little

Did you have underlay under it? When you say you’ve gone for a pay per week carpet fitter do you mean you’ve paid up front or that you’re still paying for it?

It doesn’t look flat at all, I wouldn’t be happy with that finish.

SocksAndTheCity · 22/11/2024 21:27

Did you have underlay put down between the tiles and the carpet? That will help keep you warm and reduce the wear Smile

I can't see much bar some really faint lines, but I would think they'll flatten out as you walk on the carpet? If it feels really loose I would call the fitters back though.

I would write an email to the carpet fitting company with attached photos and relay the conversation you had with the fitter. Include as much detail as possible.

If the ripples are still there in a couple of weeks, contact them again with photos and ask for it to be rectified.

You can also contact the Citizens Advice Consumer helpline for advice.

Workiskilligme · 22/11/2024 21:59

It looks like a felt back?? which has no underlay. Is that right?

purplemom03 · 22/11/2024 22:01

Yes underlay is under the carpet as it's free underlay I'm guessing it's either the lowest price or 1 up from the lowest if you know what I mean

I've just had whole house fitted. 3 bedrooms , stairs, landing , hall , lounge and diner. Underlay and carpet.

1 bloke did it all alone. Was folded (14.99 sqm) so not expensive but not the basic.
However it has no ripples .

You could always give the carpet shop a ring and ask their advice, as most fitters work freelance, which means their opinions/advice are their own and not necessarily those of the shop. The carpet on our stairs was very badly laid and when we complained, the shop sent a different fitter out who said it was a 'fucking shit job'😆 He got us a completely new piece of carpet and installed it properly and it looks great now. The bedrooms and landing were all fine. Incidentally, the first fitter turned up with our carpet on top of a car roof rack, like a big upside down v shape!

purplemom03 · 23/11/2024 09:42

Yes it's still being paid for ie so paid a deposit beginning of Oct then after the first payment they arranged delivery but we put it back due to some extra decorating etc so I total paid 40 then 30 then 30
