Is it the boiler or the radiators?

Hi all, Our boiler is 12yrs old. Almost end of life, but it seems to be working fine with hot water. It’s not a combi boiler, we have a hot water tank upstairs.

In the last few days, a couple of radiators have stopped heating up completely. These are in the hallway and one of the living rooms we don’t use much - so that’s ok. the other radiators are just warm, taking ages to warm up rooms. Some radiators are warmer at the top than the bottom,

Im not sure if this is the problem with radiators (sludge) or if the boiler is giving up.

Any relevant advice is gratefully welcomed!

Thank you.

Sounds more like the radiators need bleeding to let trapped air out. Easy to do.

Trapped air and gunk. Bleed them and consult a plumber!

Try bleeding the radiators first
