(Ee)ther or (I)ther
(Nee)ther or (Ni)ther

OP posts:
Lindjam · 22/11/2024 15:21

Ither and neether

Scutterbug · 22/11/2024 15:22

I think I use all 4!

Eminybob · 22/11/2024 15:23

I genuinely have no idea. I'd have to wait until I had cause to use it. They all sound equally correct.

twentysevendresses · 22/11/2024 15:25

All four ways...it depends on the 'sound' of the rest of the sentence I think 🤦‍♀️😂

StormingNorman · 22/11/2024 15:27

With an eye

Eye-ther and N-eye-ther

BobbyBiscuits · 22/11/2024 15:27

Nee and Ee. But both are correct in my eyes. I think maybe Nye/eye sounds a bit posher?

Larryimonducktales · 22/11/2024 15:28

Scutterbug · 22/11/2024 15:22

I think I use all 4!

I've been sitting here trying to figure it out and I think I must do too!

cardibach · 22/11/2024 15:29

It depends on the sentence. I’d say n(EE)ther this or that but n(I)ther do I, for example.
I’d say (EE)ther or, but n(I)ther do I.

Apileofballyhoo · 22/11/2024 15:29

Oddly I say eether and nither I think. I probably use all 4 at times.

Ilovemyshed · 22/11/2024 15:32

Eether and nyether

PinkiOcelot · 22/11/2024 15:35

Both ways I think. 🤔

Imfreetofeelgood · 22/11/2024 15:35

All 4 - the least used is neether. I'm not sure what makes me swap about. I think I most often use the I sound.

Sorry, I’ve messed up the last bit. I’d say ‘I don’t know (I)ther’

Trallers · 22/11/2024 15:36

All of them with no pattern (that I can spot anyway.

JimPanzee · 22/11/2024 15:39

I think it depends on the sentence which I use, but I do use all 4.

GinToBegin · 22/11/2024 15:39

Eye-ther and Nye-ther.

merryhouse · 22/11/2024 15:39

in the Germanic style

ApolloandDaphne · 22/11/2024 15:41

I think I use them both depending on context.

DappledThings · 22/11/2024 15:44

I use all pronunciations interchangeabley

Doggymummar · 22/11/2024 15:44

Eeeeether and nyether

ReadWithScepticism · 22/11/2024 15:44

This reminds me of some comedy sketch or other (The Pin, i think??)

Person 1: Do you say (nee)ther or (ni)ther?
Person 2: (ni)ther.
Person 1: But surely you must say one or the other?!?

Christwosheds · 22/11/2024 15:45

StormingNorman · 22/11/2024 15:27

With an eye

Eye-ther and N-eye-ther

Same

skippy67 · 22/11/2024 15:46

All of them.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 22/11/2024 15:48

I use them interchangeably.

ReadWithScepticism · 22/11/2024 15:48

Similarly:
Person 1: Do you say (ee)ther or (i)ther
Person 2: (i)ther.
Person 1: You mean you use them both, interchangeably?
Person 2: Absolutely not!!!
