Sickness at work

I am currently working from home (trying to) I’ve got a temperature, sore throat to the point I can’t speak or swallow very well, headache, and am extremely fatigued. Probably caught this from my colleague who would probably come in to the office even if their leg was hanging off!

I am due in the office tomorrow and I am really worried I’m not going to feel up to it. I’m anticipating a sick day, so I can rest and recover, but I am extremely anxious because I receive passive aggressive messages from my managers.
There is also no one to cover me so I will probably be told to cover emails from home tomorrow afternoon. And, if I am ok to work on Friday I will be told to go into the office (even though it’s a scheduled WFH day, and I havent made childcare arrangements, and it’s too late to arrange wrap around with the school).

The office is extremely cold, they don’t put the heating on and I’m also worried this is going to make me feel worse. I have a business trip next week and want to make sure I feel 100% before then! AIBU to take a sick day?

Definitely not. Take the sick day. Hope you feel better soon 💐

The main issue here above everything else is whether or not you are poorly. It sounds like you are so everything else can be ignored.

You could log on at home but I'm not sure I would and as for Friday, it's your WFH day so stay at home. But as an aside, I don't think it's right to work and look after kids at the same time

Absolutely nothing to worry about, if no one can cover then that's not your problem, it's your manager's.

Hope you feel better soon

Your work sounds like a toxic culture. However I wouldn't be pleased if someone had no flexibility because they were looking after children whilst they were supposed to be working.

Apologies, I think I accidentally voted that you are being unreasonable, but of course you are not.

I hate the passive aggressive culture where everyone is expected to carry on. Much better for people to take the time to recover and ideally not bring their bugs into the office.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi, my daughter is in final year of primary so I usually pick her up and she makes herself a snack and does her homework etc until I finish. It’s not really like she needs full
supervision if you see what I mean.

So, because I have to commute to the office I drop my child off to school early as part of a club they offer. When I work from home, this club isn’t booked, because I don’t need time to commute and can drop her to school and make it back in time to work. What I am saying is if they ask me to come in on Friday, I would not be able to make it in on time.

I’ve woken up with no voice and a cough my I’m dizzy. I have logged on at home and will wait till Friday to venture out to the office. I an bot taking a sick day as I’ve had two instances this year and a 3rd puts me onto monitoring. I 5 years I have had 3 sickness occurrences, now that I’m commuting by train and in the office I’m suddenly getting more bugs. I’m so glad today wfh is a thing and I can just log in and do what’s needed.

I'm sure that's understandable if you were late, that's different to saying you have no childcare and are unavailable.
