No doubt in laws pop up alot on this thread...

It was my son's christening yesterday and the in laws (mil, sil and bil) all made the 50 min train journey up. So far so good. DH went to pick them up from the station, so far so reasonable.

Went to the service and then went to the pub for scotch eggs etc. MIL said en route she didn't really like the service. Fair dos, entitled to opinion. Have reserved large area in pub. In laws got a table down the other end of the pub away from everyone else.

My mum tried to persuade them to join everyone else with no luck. Other guests went over to chat but they only came into 'our' area to get the buffet and then went straight back to their table. I know they wanted to spend time with ds but by the time they had finished, he fell asleep and no-one else got a look in. (ok, maybe not their fault but another 'rankling' factor). They then went off to catch the train and dh had to leave the party to drive them. It took about 30 - 40 minutes to get their and back so by the time he returned all the other guests had left. Lots of them had done a couple of hours journey so wasn't like they were all locals.

I'm a bit annoyed they didn't make more of an effort. His mum had a big blow up with dh the other week too saying we didn't visit often enough. We go there maybe every 3-4 weeks. Far, far less than we visit my family cos they come here. Its about an hour drive and I work some weekends so don't think we do too badly.

I'm not really mad about this, just miffed. Should I cut them some slack? They didn't know loads of people but most they had at least met at our wedding a year earlier.

I think it's only polite that your husband (her son) drop them back at the station. As for chosing a quieter table, perhaps they are just shy?

She shouldn't have said anything bad about the ceremony though. That's just rude!

bringmesunshine · 28/04/2008 13:11

What rude in laws ! Agree they should have waited until everybody else had gone before being delivered to the station and they should have at least made an effort to mingle with everbody else.

Sounds like the in laws are smarting following the blow up with DH recently. Ignore them until the they snap out of it.

I usually stick up for inlaws on these threads but they seem very rude. I would just ignore it completely, be polite but don't fall over yourselves giving lifts etc. I can't see how they can complain about seeing you once a month on average.

Rude IMO they could have made an effort and you keep your opinions to yourself about the service cheeky sods

then again inlaws (or outlaws) are not my favourite people at the moment
