Do you think this paint will looked dated in a few years?

We are moving into a gorgeous little cottage. Needs a complete regut. I am very unoriginal and just adore the homey feel of Neptune and The Cotswolds Company etc.

I am thinking of painting the walls the colour in the attached pic. Even with the same panelling. I know it’s been done to death but I wasn’t able to do it in my current home so I still adore the look and it’s new to me. The floors will be new - pale oak.

I love the colour personally and I think it suits all seasons.

I love it, and the beauty of paint is that it's so easily changed if you change your mind in a few years.

dudsville · 19/11/2024 17:40

It's a really classic colour. Enjoy your new home and making it nice for you by your own standards and whims!

Gettingbysomehow · 19/11/2024 17:42

Is that a stone kind of colour? Its nicer than beige.

yetanotherusername9183837 · 19/11/2024 17:43

It's lovely, I'd go for it.

hopeishere · 19/11/2024 17:44

What is the name of the colour. That is a flattering light they have it in what's it like in day light?

Y'see, this is why I waited to comment because I'm seeing a very pale sage green. Whatever it is, I like it very much and I can't think of anything more classic and restful for a country cottage.

skippy67 · 19/11/2024 17:46

Everything dates. If you like it, go for it. Back yourself!

BoobyDazzler · 19/11/2024 17:46

I love it, I like the look of the panelling too, especially in the right property, which it looks like yours is.

StillAtTheRestaurant · 19/11/2024 17:47

The colour is fine, but not the panelling. That look is going to date very quickly.

Larsz · 19/11/2024 17:47

I’ve seen many people say panelling is over. I don’t particularly care right now but if people are sick of theirs I am worried I will want to rip it all out in a few years.

I think it will complement our stone cottage very well. Would have loved to do it sooner but it wouldn’t have suited our last home (ugly 60s house on a cul de sac).

Edited

Tell that to my 1930’s house with the original panelling.

Yes there is a touch of green

I do think it will look dated, especially with the panelling as it’s a huge trend at the minute. I don’t think that’s a reason not to go for it if you like it though. Everything dates, you can just change it again.

user1467300911 · 19/11/2024 17:50

It is tasteful, but for me personally, the look reminds me of interiors of local gastro pubs.

Plastictrees · 19/11/2024 17:51

I’m going for a very similar colour and vibe in my new house! I’ve deliberately chose this colour as I think it’s pretty classic / neutral but with warmth, and likely to age well. Go for it!

waltzingparrot · 19/11/2024 17:52

No, it's timeless.

Normallynumb · 19/11/2024 17:53

Choose whatever you like. It's your home. I have polished pebble which is a pale grey, but I've always loved grey
Yours looks a lovely neutral

XWKD · 19/11/2024 17:55

Panelling is timeless and has been used for centuries. The fact that it's a trend doesn't change that.

JamMonster · 19/11/2024 18:17

Yes - I reckon it’s timeless for a nice cottage. My theory is that if a feature looks like it could be original to the house then it’ll be fine though you might end up painting very differently in the future.

I’m in a 60s house with a love of Edwardian style but just can’t make it work… I’m hoping the mid century modern trend won’t age for us 🤞🤞

KnopkaPixie · 19/11/2024 19:06

Well, I think it looks nice. Have it! It's what you want!

pilates · 19/11/2024 19:18

Didimum · 19/11/2024 19:31

There is a style of panelling that will date, but not this. Colour is very neutral and won't date either.

Eenameenadeeka · 20/11/2024 06:01

It's lovely. And it's your house, it only matters that you like it.

WhatMe123 · 20/11/2024 06:09

Panelling will age soon I suspect however in a firm believer in people should have what they like in their hones so if you want panelling then go for it 😁 can't see that colour ever going out of fashion tbh
