To think a £20 tip is plenty?

Stayed a week at a holiday cottage in Devon. Me and dh and his mum and dad in the other bedroom. Been clean and tidy. House keeper has been to make beds and hoover twice during the week. So we are effectively tipping £10 per clean during our stay.

Is that enough?

To be honest it would not occur to me to tip so I’d say more than enough

yeesh · 19/11/2024 15:55

I don’t tip in holiday cottages, didn’t know it was a thing tbh

saveforthat · 19/11/2024 15:55

I tip nearly every one but holiday cottage? Would never occur to me. Also I have never stayed in a cottage where the cleaner comes in during your actual stay.

MattSmithsBowTie · 19/11/2024 16:10

It’s £20 more than I’d tip.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 19/11/2024 16:17

It would never occur to me to tip in this situation tbh.

PumpkinScarf · 19/11/2024 16:19

I wouldn’t tip in this situation.

TheFlis · 19/11/2024 16:30

DH and I are both very generous tippers and it would not even occur to us to tip in these circumstances.

ItsyWincy · 19/11/2024 16:32

Tipping is a strange concept. I'm not sure why waiting staff are any different to any other minimum wage staff.

I think teaching assistants should get a tip.

Chemenger · 19/11/2024 16:34

I have never tipped in a holiday cottage but equally I have never had a housekeeper come in during the stay. Is this a lodge attached to a hotel perhaps?

Itoldyousoo · 19/11/2024 16:48

I am a tipper but tbh I wouldn't in this situation as feel it is included in the rental price.

Hazeby · 19/11/2024 16:56

I stay in holiday cottages regularly and have never tipped.

Wafflefudge · 19/11/2024 17:01

I wouldn't think to tip. You have paid for the cleaning as part of your rental cost abd the cleaner is being paid for her time.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/11/2024 17:09

It wouldn't occur to me to tip at all.

TheLimeHedgehog · 19/11/2024 17:12

Not sure why you feel the need to tip at all, I pay for services that are offered at the prices stated.

It's not my responsibility to provide staff extra wages or make up for their bosses greed and lack of pay in any scenario.

This.

Wouldn't cross my mind to 'tip'. The person has presumably come in, and done his / her job that they have been paid to do. There is no onus on you to then pay them again.

Chan9eusername · 19/11/2024 18:17

It wouldn't have occurred to me to tip at all, the cleaner is being paid a wage.

Zanatdy · 19/11/2024 18:25

I always tip in restaurants not never a holiday cottage

HotCrossBunplease · 19/11/2024 18:31

Are you American or something?

healthybychristmas · 19/11/2024 18:31

I wouldn't give a tip in this situation either. Isn't there a cleaning fee?
