To go to the police

My eldest has been assaulted at school, left with injuries. Both are in Y10.

The other person went to get older friends to "help" although was the only one to throw any punches. It happened because of a "he called you a name". Child has been suspended for the maximum amount of days according to the school but may be extended.

We did call the police. Still waiting for them to come to see us/arrange an appointment. Was it unreasonable to call the police?

Of course not, this attitude of 'assaulted at school is fine, centre the perpetrator because x/y/z... let the school deal with it' is ridiculous.
If a colleague at work assaulted you, would you be 'meh.... best not call the police'.

No it's not unreasonable to call the police. The school won't want you to, and a lot of parents think things like this should be sorted 'in-house', but I think the person doing the assaulting needs a serious wake up call, and this could be it.

Yes although it’ll b classed as handbags and nothing will be done, low priority with police.

Definitely get the police involved and organise a restraining order if necessary. Let other people know that you are getting the police involved because you’ll probably have a lot of aggrieved parents come out of the woodwork.

The school were the ones to mention it first "if you calll the police, please can you give us any information for our files"

I did think this too, I'm worried that it means my child will be targeted but at the same time can't go around assaulting people.
