I dont need to be reminded every 5 seconds on cooking shows that the chef is washing their hands

What is it with this, constant - 'Im just going to wash my hands'

I KNOWWWW

Yes I also own a sink and I also wash my hands sporadically during making stuff for dinner. I dont need to be told every 5 seconds that you chef, are washing your hands.

So patronising. It's like those signs you get in the toilets at work 'NOW wash your hands!' and even instructions with diagrams on how to do it 🤣😂. Geez.

It’s because people complain … You only have to read a few MN threads to see how oddly militant people are around food

Kaleidoscopic101 · 18/11/2024 21:27

You reckon? Assuming this is the case then the fact they have to actually say it is probably to do with accessibility...not saying that's a bad thing but it's probably not enough to just show they're washing your hands...perhaps it has to be verbalised for the hard of seeing (sorry I am not the best when it comes to PCness)

Im not sure I buy this, they dont have a running commentary about every single thing
now Im reaching for a tea towel
now Im putting the spoon back down
now Im wiping down my worktop

Ah ok ...perhaps not then. It's very strange!

ABirdsEyeView · 18/11/2024 23:17

I've noticed this recently - I'm sure they never used to do it. If I'm watching a cooking show, I trust the chef has clean hands - I don't need to see them washing!

soupfiend · 19/11/2024 15:42

No they didnt used to do it, I dont know if it came in through covid, cant remember. But its very annoying

Perhaps they need a song like I Can Cook, we've not watched that show for a decade and I still sing it (to myself) when I wash my hands for cooking.

🎶 Roll up your sleeves, give your hands a wash, slippy dippy soap, splash splash splash!🎶

Swissrollover · 19/11/2024 15:54

They previously used to handle raw chicken then handle the cooked version (they prepared earlier) or something else and not wash their hands.

This was VERY dangerous practice and I'm sure led to many complaints. I don't really watch cooking shows, so not sure how often they are commenting on washing their hands, but assume it is almost always after handling raw ingredients that can be a health hazard.
