To think husband is wrong about extension? Combined utility and downstairs toilet?

So we are finally having our plans drawn up to extend downstairs (it’s taken years). We are extending the kitchen to have a seating area too that overlooks the garden and we also wanted a separate utility and pantry.

Now DH thinks we should sack off the pantry and have a bigger combined utility room with a toilet.

(We currently have a very small downstairs toilet but he wants to turn this into a storage cupboard)

I don’t like the idea of washing my clothes next to poo particles (even if I cleaned it twice a day!)

Don’t sack off the pantry!! Unless you’ve a massive kitchen. They are such useful storage. What would he put in the storage cupboard that would go where the current downstairs loo is?

Years ago houses had the toilet at the bottom of the garden, no poo particles made it into the house.
I always wondered why they did this?
As for shitting in the washing machine, it saves wiping your arse.
There will be poo particles on your keyboard. Think about that!
😉😁😁.

I have seen some utility rooms where the toilet looks a bit lost in there, I think I would prefer it boxed off somehow? But this is what we’ve just done in our downstairs bathroom.
the washing machine is on the right and tumble dryer on the left.
Mind you we ripped the bath out for this which I know is very marmite on here, but eventually (if we can afford it!) it will give us more options in the kitchen/diner.

This looks fantastic

I've got a "pootility" room. It's great. Also got a freezer in there. I don't change my sheets enough either

My parents had a look separate from the bathroom so nowhere to wash hands

I've had gastroenteritis twice in my life....I'm 61

Kids had it once each they're 29/31

Not sure after being on Mumsnet how I survived!

I’m glad you came to say you have a freezer in there too! Grin We have an upright stand alone freezer in ours and it never has occured to me this could be an issue. I wonder if people talk about it behind our backs…

We also used the utility sink and countertop as a temporary kitchen when we had our kitchen extension done. We are still all alive, maybe poo particles are good for one’s constitution?

Our lootility (great word) isn’t as small as in the pictures above. It’s like a small utility with a big sink, L- shaped countertop with a washing machine and dryer (and the freezer…), then a separate space for a small hand wash sink and loo. A small partition wall in between the two but there’s a door’s width of open space to go from one to another.
